The following day, Monday 2 November, a Reaper conducted three successful strikes with two Hellfire missiles and a GBU-12 guided bomb against ISIL terrorist positions in western Iraq, including an anti-aircraft gun which the Reaper had located.

On Sunday 1 November, an RAF Reaper used a Hellfire missile to destroy a group of terrorists in close combat with Iraqi troops, while a second Reaper, operating over Anbar province, worked in close cooperation with coalition fast jets to assist Iraqi operations to isolate the ISIL terrorists in and around Ramadi. The Reaper provided surveillance support to six coalition air strikes on terrorists manoeuvring in the area, and conducted four highly accurate strikes of its own using Hellfire missiles on groups of extremists as they attempted to reposition themselves against the advancing Iraqi forces.

In north-west Iraq, Tornado GR4s were meanwhile supporting Kurdish peshmerga near Sinjar: three Paveway attacks destroyed an armed pick-up truck, a weapons cache, and a sniper position.

On 30 October 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position northeast of Tal Afar using precision guided munitions.

On Friday 30 October, a pair of GR4s again provided close air support to the Iraqi army, on this occasion near the occupied city of Ramadi. Two Paveways successfully disrupted an attempted terrorist attack on an Iraqi unit. The ISIL terrorists then opened fire on the Iraqis with two light anti-aircraft cannons. Despite difficult weather conditions, the highly capable GR4s were able to target the gun positions using a second pair of Paveway IVs, and both terrorist guns were knocked out and the threat to them removed.

On Oct. 29, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted one strike using fighter aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 11 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, and attack aircraft against ISIL targets. Tornado GR4s from RAF Akrotiri, supported by a Voyager air-to-air refuelling tanker, provided close air support to Iraqi troops operating near Bayji on Thursday 29 October. A number of ISIL terrorists were observed manoeuvring towards an Iraqi position, and our aircraft successfully attacked three groups with Paveway IV guided bombs.

Later that day, another GR4 flight conducted a strike on a fortified terrorist position near Tal Afar in the north-west of the country, hitting three targets with Paveways.

Au Levant, la situation est surtout marquée par une évolution des lignes de fronts en Irak, principalement dans la zone nord du pays (région Sinjar – Mossoul – Kirkouk) ou Daech semble adoptée une posture défensive. A Baïdji, les Forces de sécurité irakiennes (FSI) reprennent peu à peu le contrôle de la ville. Dans la vallée de l’Euphrate, à l’ouest de Bagdad, la tension entre FSI et Daech reste toujours aussi forte autour de la ville de Ramadi. Dans ce contexte, la coalition poursuit son appui aérien au profit des FSI partout où leurs éléments sont au contact de Daech.

Depuis le 15 octobre 2015, la composante aérienne de la force Chammal a ainsi conduit 42 nouvelles missions, dont 14 missions de renseignement parmi lesquelles 9 au-dessus des zones contrôlées par Daech en Syrie. The following day, Sunday 25 October, an RAF Reaper again joined forces with coalition fast jets to help them target two terrorist-held buildings which were successfully attacked, then mounted two strikes with Hellfire missiles on ISIL terrorists as they attempted to reposition themselves.

On Oct. 24, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter, attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

On Saturday 24 October, another Reaper worked closely with coalition jets to carry out a series of precision attacks on terrorist positions. The Reaper identified two terrorist sniper positions, which were struck by guided bombs from a coalition aircraft. Advancing Iraqi troops then came into close combat with a group of terrorists; the Reaper maintained close observation on the firefight, and was able to eliminate one terrorist team, without endangering the Iraqi soldiers, using a Hellfire missile.

When the terrorists retreated to positions in a trench and a culvert, the Reaper provided surveillance support to a coalition air strike which destroyed the trench, and conducted a second Hellfire strike itself on the extremists.

On Oct. 23, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 21 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter, attack, ground-attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

On 23 October 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position and an ISIS ammunitions cache northwest of Ramadi using precision guided munitions.

On Friday 23 October, the crew of a Reaper remotely piloted aircraft identified an ISIL armoured personnel carrier, concealed under a large building. Despite the difficulty this target posed, the crew were able to position to destroy the vehicle with a Hellfire missile.

The Reaper then supported another coalition aircraft in a successful strike on a second terrorist vehicle which had been identified nearby.

On Oct. 22, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted one strike using remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 15 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, fighter, and bomber aircraft against ISIL targets.

The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

Syria

• Near Mar’a, one strike destroyed an ISIL vehicle and an ISIL mortar tube.

Iraq

• Near Kisik, one strike destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

• Near Makhmur, one strike destroyed two ISIL weapons caches.

• Near Mosul, four strikes struck three separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed five ISIL heavy machine guns, five ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL tactical vehicle, and suppressed ISIL mortar fire.

• Near Ramadi, three strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed seven ISIL fighting positions, four ISIL heavy machine guns, three ISIL mobility obstacles, two ISIL improvised explosive device (IED) clusters, two ISIL mortar positions, an ISIL building, an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL vehicle-borne IED, an ISIL anti-tank guided missile system, and denied ISIL access to terrain.

• Near Sinjar, three strikes destroyed 15 ISIL fighting positions and two ISIL command and control nodes.

• Near Tal Afar, two strikes struck two separate ISIL IED facilities.

• Near Sultan Abdallah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

MacFarland, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. “We are proud of the combined forces who conducted the mission to rescue these Iraqi hostages. Their courage, skill, and sacrifice narrowly prevented yet another brutal massacre by Daesh murderers. It is important to realize that U.S. military support to this Iraqi rescue operation is part of our overarching counter-terrorism efforts throughout the region and does not represent a change in our policy. U.S. forces are not in Iraq on a combat mission and do not have boots on the ground.

En Irak, la semaine a été marquée par la poursuite des opérations visant à juguler Daech et restreindre les mouvements des combattants terroristes. Cette semaine, les FSI ont débuté la reprise de Bayji et de la raffinerie voisine – sites stratégiques tenus jusqu’ici par Daech.

Cette offensive est largement appuyée par les moyens de la coalition. Depuis plusieurs semaines, les opérations aériennes (ISR et reconnaissances armées) se concentrent sur la région de Bayji. Les frappes contre des objectifs précis ont affaibli les capacités de Daech. De plus, les soldats de l’ICTS formés par la coalition ont été engagés dans le combat. Les forces françaises participent à ce programme de formation, en particulier dans les domaines de l’instruction au combat en zones urbaines et la lutte contre les engins explosifs improvisés.

Du 15 au 21 octobre, la force Chammal a poursuivi ses opérations aériennes au-dessus des espaces contrôlés par Daech. Au total, 24 missions ont été réalisées par les équipages français – dont 6 dédiées aux vols d’acquisition de renseignement. En Irak, les avions de l’armée de l’air ont frappé 11 objectifs tenus par Daech. A Bagdad et Erbil, les militaires français restent engagés dans la formation des forces irakiennes – en particulier l’état-major de la 6e division (DAA6 de Bagdad). Cette semaine, les conseillers français ont davantage axé leur expertise dans les domaines spécifiques de la conduite des opérations, l’emploi des appuis et la logistique opérationnelle.

• Near Ramadi, three strikes [1 British] struck three separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL fighting positions, two ISIL heavy machine guns, an ISIL building, an ISIL bunker, and an ISIL vehicle.

• Near Sinjar, one strike destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

• Near Sultan Abdallah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position, an ISIL heavy machine gun, and an ISIL vehicle.
