September 23rd – U.S. military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Iraq and Syria, using a mix of bomber and remotely piloted aircraft to conduct three airstrikes last night and today. Two of the airstrikes were conducted last night as part of the operation over Syria and resulted in one damaged ISIL armed vehicle and one destroyed ISIL armed vehicle southwest of Dayr Az Zawr.

Reports that a reconnaissance mission was conducted Sunday, September 21 by the French aircraft over Iraq. Two Rafale equipped with a designation Damocles pod conducted yesterday morning a new air support mission for the benefit of the Iraqi armed forces.The French planes and flew over the Baghdad area for nearly four hours, thanks to the five in-flight refueling tanker provided by the French C135 and an American KC-10.

Dans le cadre de l’opération Chammal, lancée vendredi 19 septembre par le Président de la République, une mission de reconnaissance a été conduite dimanche 21 septembre par les avions français au-dessus de l’Irak.

Deux avions Rafale équipés d’un pod de désignation Damoclès ont effectué hier matin une nouvelle mission de soutien aérien au profit des forces armées irakiennes.

Les avions français ont ainsi survolé la région de Bagdad durant près de quatre heures, grâce aux cinq ravitaillements en vol assurés par le ravitailleur C135 français ainsi qu’un KC-10 américain.

Ces missions visent à assurer un soutien aérien aux forces armées irakiennes dans leur lutte contre le groupe terroriste Daech, conformément à la décision du Président de la République de répondre à la demande des autorités irakiennes.

Armés de bombes GBU 12, deux avions Rafale équipés de pod de désignation Damoclès et soutenus par un avion ravitailleur C135-FR ont effectué ce matin une nouvelle mission de soutien aérien en Irak, dans la région de Bagdad.

Ce vol s’inscrivait dans le cadre d’une mission dite de “dynamic targeting”. Il s’agit pour les équipages de se tenir prêts à assurer des frappes en cas d’identification de cibles d’opportunité au sol.

En contact permanent avec le centre opérationnel aérien(1) américain d’Al Udeid, au Qatar, chargé de la coordination des moyens engagés sur zone, les avions français ont ainsi survolé le nord-ouest de Bagdad durant près de deux heures. Aucune frappe n’a été effectuée au cours de ce vol.

Ces missions, qu’elles soient orientées vers des cibles d’opportunité ou prédéfinies, visent à assurer un soutien aérien aux forces armées irakiennes dans leur lutte contre le groupe terroriste Daech.

Ces actions s’inscrivent dorénavant dans le cadre de l’opération Chammal, nom d’un vent de nord-ouest soufflant sur l’Irak et le golfe arabo-persique.
