Airwars assessment

A Russian forces army patrol reportedly killed a child with disabilities, Abdul Aziz Khalil Al-Hajar, 17 or 16 years old, by gunfire, in the Al Jura neighbourhood of Deir Ezzor on December 9th 2021, in the evening.

Euphrates reported that Abdul Al-Hajar was sitting next to the “Quba Mosque” and that the “patrolmen treated him as a suicide bomber because of the uniform he was wearing, known as the “skull.”” Euphrates also reported that he was wearing an abaya (a winter fur) – but as Deir Ezzor 24 News reported, the patrol members accused him of wearing a suicide vest. According to a local source, @Sada_AlSharqieh, one of the Russian patrol saw the young man filming the Russian forces, and shot him “directly for fear of having any weapons with him.”

Euphrates reported that the Russian patrol “ran him over with a car after he was killed.” Deir Ezzor 24 News added that they also beat him and dragged his body to a security branch. Other local sources corroborate this, saying that his body was tied to one of the military vehicles.

Abdul Al-Hajar was from Subikhan in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

@Sada_AlSharqieh reported on Twitter that “the city is witnessing a great security alert, fearing the people’s reaction to the incident.”  Aramme News also reported that “the killing comes amid popular anger in Deir Ezzor governorate for weeks, after Russian patrols tried to pass through the governorate, which was completely rejected by the people.”

The incident occured in the evening.

Between four and 10 children were injured in alleged Russian or regime artillery strikes on the town of Maarzaf on November 28, 2021.

According to the Syrian Civil Defense, 10 children, all from one family, were injured as a result of laser-guided artillery shelling against civilian homes in Maarzaf. One of the injured children was heard yelling out “I want Youssef” to one of their siblings that was still trapped under the rubble of their home.

Halab Today TV’s correspondent reported that “four children survived the bombing that targeted their house in the town of Maarzaf, indicating that ambulance teams transferred the injured to the nearest medical point in the area for treatment” after also putting there injury count at 10. Xeber24 News added that the injuries were “seriously” wounded.

A tweet from @resalapost and @thiqanewsagency identified four children as being injured in the strikes on the town of Maarzaf and both blamed the regime.

The correspondent of “Zaman al-Wasl” in Idlib said that the two brothers, “Fatima and Marwan Aref Suleiman“, were injured to varying degrees and that the parents and the civil defense teams managed to get four children out from under the rubble without any injury.

An image posted by @IdlibPlus shows three children covered in dust who were said to have escaped from the rubble of the house.

Alsouria News specifically referred to the area affected by the strikes as being a residential neighborhood and the buildings struck as being civilian homes.

Sources were conflicted as to whether Russia or the regime was responsible, with @Wesal_TV blaming the regime while @OmarAlMakhtar86 attributed the strikes to Russia. A tweet from @freeehsem mentioned that “rocket-propelled grenades” were used in the attack.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Up to two civilians were killed and another was injured in alleged Israeli airstrikes on Homs on November 24, 2021. Conflicting reports were given as to whether two of the people killed were civilians, with up to three others being identified as members of the regime forces.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), a regime-controlled media source, reported that two civilians were killed and another civilian was injured, in addition to six soldiers who were injured in alleged Israeli airstrikes at 1:26am. The source added that the Syrian air defenses had shot down most of the missiles.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) gave a conflicting report that “the death toll in the targeting rose to 5, two of the militias loyal to the Lebanese Hezbollah, whose nationality has not yet been known, and 3 members of the regime forces. Both of them were in civilian clothes during the targeting, and it turned out that they were soldiers later on.”

A Facebook post from Free Dier Azour Radio named the three members of the regime forces that were killed: Sultan Qilih, Zine El Abidine Qataz, Ibrahim Karim.

SOHR added that the killings were a result of both the Israeli airstrikes and the remnants of missiles from the “air battle between the regime’s air defenses and the Israeli missiles” and specified that he Israeli targeting caused the death of at least 4 people and the injury of others, two of them were killed in the western suburbs, and two were killed as a result of the fall of the remnants of missiles, without specifying if this occurred in a different location.

AFP quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying that the strikes occurred in an area near three villages in the west of Homs province. A Facebook post from Nors Studies identified the location of one of the strikes as occurring near Kabash Gas Station on Lebanon Road.

Jerusalem Post quoted opposition-affiliated Halab Today TV that “10 members of Hezbollah were injured after a site the movement uses as a military headquarters and to store logistical equipment was targeted in the airstrikes.” The source also quoted Al-Araby Al-Jadeed in reporting that “at least 10 missiles hit positions belonging to Syrian regime forces west of the city of Homs, causing casualties among civilians, Syrian soldiers and Iran-backed militants. One of the sites targeted was located in the Syrian Gas Company, according to the report. The two civilians were reportedly killed by a missile that hit a civilian area near a gas station west of Homs.”

AFP reported that the Israeli military declined to comment on “reports in the foreign media.”

The incident occured at 01:26:00 local time.

Airwars assessment

Between one and two civilians were killed and an unspecified number of others were wounded in alleged Russian or regime artillery shelling of the village of Ain Larouz on November 24, 2021.

The Nedaa Post correspondent reported the killing of two civilians after targeting the village of “Ain Larouz” in Jabal Al-Zawiya with “Krasnopol” laser missiles, while the civil defense teams worked for many hours to retrieve the dead and wounded from under the rubble.

Macro Media Center also mentioned that civilians were injured from the shelling by regime forces but did not specify how many. @hadikhraat put the death toll at one civilian killed and also blamed the regime forces.

Al-Tariq’s correspondent identified that the civilians that were wounded had sustained wounds of varying degrees of severity.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights referred to those killed as being “Turkestans”, adding that it was unknown whether they were fighters or their family members.

Hibr Press reported that in addition to the two people killed and others wounded, houses were destroyed and Baladi News also pointed out that a mosque was affected by the shelling. A Facebook post from Abo kotar described “extensive damage”.

Sources were conflicted as to whether the regime or Russian forces were responsible, with @ShamAlmagd1991 blaming Russia while @IdlibPlus identified the regime and North Press Agency specifically pointed to the regime forces stationed in the Jorin camp. Multiple sources pointed out that Krasnopol shells were used in the attack.

The incident occured in the afternoon.
