Airwars assessment

On April 4th, one civilian was killed when confirmed Russian forces opened fire and shelled an enterprise building in the Chuhuiv section of Kharkiv.

The Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office posted on Telegram and Facebook that they had carried out a pre-trial investigation for violations of the rules of war according to Part 2, article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Susplilne News and Status Quo News both used a quote from Chuhuiv Mayor Galina Minayeva: “The last days have been very serious for our city. Shells and rockets were flying in different micro districts of the city. Infrastructure was damaged. Residential buildings were destroyed and damaged”. At the same time, according to the mayor, municipal services continued to operate in the city, thanks to which the houses of local residents have electricity and water.

Reports from Susplilne News, along with the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group noted that around two in the afternoon, a supposed Russian shell hit an enterprise building that killed one man.

Russian state-run media source RT quoted the Russian Ministry of Defense that “targets in Chuhuiv” were struck by the Russian military, and coupled with strikes on Zolochev resulted in destruction of the command post of the territorial defense unit, the fuel storage and the plant for the repair of armored vehicles.

The incident occured at approximately 2:00 pm local time.

Russian Military

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Briefing by the Russian Ministry of Defence (05.04.2022)

◽️ The grouping of troops of the Luhansk People's Republic continues its offensive against the positions of the Ukrainian 24th Independent Mechanized Brigade and is fighting on the eastern outskirts of the village of Novotoshkovskoye.

💥 On the Severodonetsk direction, units of the Luhansk People's Republic have broken through the defence of the 57th AFU mechanised brigade, destroying up to 50 personnel and 9 armoured vehicles, and are fighting on the northern outskirts of the Zamulovka settlement.

◽️ The Russian Armed Forces continue strikes against Ukraine's military infrastructure.

💥 High-precision air-launched missiles near the settlements of Zolochev and Chuguev destroyed the command post of a territorial defence unit, a fuel storage facility and an armoured vehicle repair plant.

💥 During the day, Russian Air Force and missile forces hit 33 Ukrainian military facilities. Among them: eight command posts, three logistics depots, as well as 21 strongholds and areas where AFU military equipment is concentrated.

💥 Russian air defence forces shot down five Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles.

📊 A total of 125 aircraft, 93 helicopters, 403 drones, 1981 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 854 field artillery and mortar guns, as well as 1,876 pieces of special military vehicles have been destroyed since the start of the special military operation.

💥 On the morning of 5 April, another attempt by the Kiev regime to evacuate the leaders of the Azov nationalist battalion was foiled near Mariupol. Two Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopters attempting to break through to the city from the sea were shot down by man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems.

◽️ Earlier, we have repeatedly communicated to the Kyiv regime through all available channels our proposals regarding the possibility of the Ukrainian armed forces withdrawing from Mariupol after voluntarily laying down their weapons.

◽️ Today, once again, as of 6am Moscow time, Ukrainian servicemen were offered to cease hostilities, lay down their weapons and withdraw along the agreed route to the territory under the control of the Kiev regime. However, these proposals have been consistently ignored by the Kiev regime.

◽️ Given Kiev's disinterest in saving the lives of its servicemen, Mariupol will be liberated from nationalists by units of the Russian Armed Forces and the Donetsk people's republic.

Airwars assessment

Two male civilians were killed in the village of Slatyno, Kharkiv Region by shelling in an attack suspected to have been carried out by Russian service personnel on a residential building in the early afternoon. Images shared online by the Ukrainian Independent Information Agency show a single story house to have been collapsed and destroyed by the shelling with fragments of the building littered across the surrounding land. No further information is known about the two men killed in this shelling at this time.

Though Russia has not claimed responsibility for the shelling, the attack has been widely reported by local twitter sources such as @black_cerber and @verkhovna_rada alongside news organisations including Interfax and LB as of Russian origin. As a result, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office launched a pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder, represented by Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This investigation was conducted by the local SBU Office.

The attack came at the same as Ukranian forces had claimed Slatyno and the neighbouring villages of Bezruky and Prudyanka as “liberated” from Russian occupation. During this time however, Mayor Zadorenko of the Derhachi District noted that there had been non-stop shelling of civilian objects.

This assessment has reference to ACLED code UKR71423.
