Airwars assessment

Between two and five civilians died and up to seven more were wounded in alleged Coalition airstrike on Tabaqa, local media reported.

According to Syria Mirror, “field activists said that the Coalition aircraft launched several air raids on the residential communities in the city of Al Tabaqa, killing seven people, including two members of IS and wounding others”.

The Smart News Network also pointed towards the Coalition, reporting that it carried out five raids which killed four non-combatants and wounded seven more.

TunisiaTV and Moheet also said that “Syrian opposition sources reported the killing of two people and wounding others in the bombing of the Daheyat Alexandria, south of the city of Tabaqa in rural Raqqa”, though the sources didn’t identify the culprit.

Airwars assessment

Seven family members – including five children – died in alleged Coalition airstrikes on Hawi Al Kanissa neighbourhood early on Wednesday, locals said.

Sources furthermore reported to Yaqein Agency that “the military bombardment of the neighborhood has caused considerable material damage to the houses of citizens near the targeted house.”

All sources said the Coalition had carried out the raids on Hawi Al Kanissa – though Al Rafidain said the Iraqi government had also bombed in West Mosul neighbourhoods that day.

Airwars assessment

Seven civilians including a family of five died in an alleged Coalition airstrike on the Al Wahab neighbourhood of Al Tabaqa, according to local sources – though there is currently some uncertainty about the date of the event.

According to Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, “the family of Ali al Mabrouk made up of five people were killed after a raid on their house west of the church in the Al Wahab neighbourhood in Al Tabaqa.”

Journalist Mohab Nasser, also blamed the Coalition, reporting on April 29th the death of “three girls [sisters] from one family killed after their house was targeted by the international Coalition west of the Al Kanissa roundabout two days ago”. He named the victims (also named by Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently).

However, given that the report was on April 29th and said that the deaths occurred “two days ago”, there is some uncertainty on dates.

Mohab Nasser later named four further victims “killed in Coalition raids on civilian homes west of Al Kanissa roundabout a few days ago”.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also attributed the event to the Coalition, putting the death toll at six, including four women, with five of the victims from one family.

Mohab Nasser also published images on April 30th showing Al Wasat Street, Al Wahab in the Al Qariya area after the SDF took control of it, indicating that there could have been heavy raids a few days previously.

CHAMMAL ASSESSMENT OF SITUATION Status of operations as of April 27, 2017 In Syria the SDS continued to garner territorial gains at the expense of the terrorist organization. In the Tabqah region, progress continues in the city itself and around the dam. In the Raqqah region, the defensive perimeter of Daesh north of the city continues to shrink. In Iraq, Daesh continued its asymmetric actions and seeks to take advantage of weather that is not conducive to effective coalition air support. In the Mosul region, the situation continues to evolve favorably for ISPs. In the north-west, on the outskirts of the city, the 9th Division has paused in its progression to focus on securing the area under its control, including to counter attempts infiltrations of terrorist groups. Further south, in the districts of the city of Mosul, the ICTS and the FEDPOL continue their methodical progress aimed at isolating the medina. These units are facing continuing resistance from Daesh members, who this week launched unsuccessful counter-attacks from the Medina. ACTIVITIES OF THE CHAMMAL FORCE Fire support - TF Wagram The Task Force (TF) Wagram continued this week its shooting missions in support of the 9th Iraqi Division engaged in the Badush region. It carried out 30 firing missions in support of Iraqi units, as part of their operations to secure the area against groups of Daesh seeking to infiltrate. It is, in equal proportions, missions of shelling or destruction against Daesh units. Air support to the Levant This week, the aircraft of Operation Chammal made 54 sorties, including 40 for armed reconnaissance or ground support (CAS), 3 for air command and control, 5 for refueling, and 6 for intelligence gathering. Six strikes were carried out by French aircraft in Iraq and Syria, with a special effort this week to support operations in the Raqqah region.

A local report said that a family was killed in shelling in the Tammuz neighborhood of western Mosul.

Ninawa Media Center reported that a father, son and the son’s daughter were all killed by shelling in Tammuz. As the report noted, “My dear brother, a random bombardment of July near the Mufti Mosque claimed the death of a father, son and daughter of his son. The people of the region buried them in the garden of his house. God let you stop the indiscriminate shelling.“

In their August 2020 civilian casualty report, the US-led Coalition assessed reports that they were responsible for civilian harm in this strike as “non-credible”, stating that after a review of all available records it was determined that, more likely than not, civilian casualties did not occur as a result of a Coalition action.

Airwars assessment

According to the Euphrates Post, “the International Alliance targeted an oil tanker in the al Hazzam area in the city of Albuqmal and killed the driver immediately.”

The Step News Agency and the Shaam News Network also put the death toll at one and blamed the Coalition.

Airwars assessment

A military source told Yaqein agency that 46 civilians were killed and dozens were wounded – with varying injuries – after airstrikes of the Joint Forces targeted Baaj and Qayrawan towns in western Nineveh. It was also reported that dozens of houses of civilians were destroyed.

The area was the scene of heavy fighting between Iraqi government-aligned PMU militias and ISIL.
