Airwars assessment

A six-year-old girl was killed by shrapnel while outside her house in Jabalia on May 14th, 2021, multiple sources reported. The majority of sources said the shrapnel resulted from nearby Israeli shelling, but Defence for Children International – Palestine and NGO Monitor reported that it came from a rocket-propelled grenade. Rocket-propelled grenades are commonly used by Palestinian militants.

The girl was named as Buthaina Mahmoud Issa Obaid. She was reported to have had a disability, which a source identified as cerebral palsy. The shrapnel struck her head and although she was rushed to hospital, she was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.

Defence for Children International – Palestine noted it had not yet been able to confirm the source of the rocket-propelled grenade and said it was continuing to investigate the incident. NGO Monitor, a group based in Jerusalem, alleged that “this incident is the result of Palestinian munitions: Either one of the RPGs fired by Palestinians towards Israel misfired, or an Israeli strike on a weapons cache led to secondary explosions.”

There were no other reports of harm as a result of this incident.

The incident occured at 21:15:00 local time.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

Five rockets were fired by Al Qassam into the city of Sderot, injuring at least two civilians on May 19, 2021. Al Qassam confirmed that they had attacked the city of Sderot that day.

The rockets reportedly caused damage to several buildings and cars, according to multiple sources. It was reported that either two or three of the rockets directly hit buildings.

The two civilians were reported injured when one of the rockets hit their house whilst they were in the basement with their family. Those injured were a 65 year old man who sustained minor injuries and a 72 year old man who sustained a head injury. According to two sources the 65 year old was treated at the scene, whilst the 72 year old was taken to Barzilai Hospital. One source also reported that a number of civilians experienced anxiety in relation to the attack.

MDA paramedic Alex Kosinov said: “The wounded man was with his family in the basement of the house that was hit by the RCC. We were told that the force of the hit and the blow fell.”

Whilst the majority of sources reported the weaponry used as rockets, three sources claimed that a rocket propelled grenade was used. Multiple sources reported that the attack caused the electricity to cut out.

No sources reported the time of the incident, although the MDA reported that the injured were treated within the window of 12.00am and 9.55pm.

Al Qassam posted on their Telegram channel at 15:47 and 17:25 that the “Al-Qassam Brigades bombed the usurped “Sderot” with a missile launch” and later posted that “The enemy admits that there were injuries, direct damage to a building, and power outages after the recent Qassam bombing of the usurped “Sderot”.

The incident occured between 1:47 pm and 5:25 pm local time.

Galit Bialobopolo told News.in.24: “Around 8:45 pm (Tuesday), the sirens sounded and I heard very close and very loud ‘booms’ one after the other. A rocket landed on the building in front of me” Bialobopolo said, but the blast of the explosion was felt even in his apartment, very damaged, noted an AFP team.

Airwars assessment

A missile, allegedly fired from Gaza, struck an ambulance injuring the driver in the Western Negev region of Israel on May 10th 2021, according to local reports.

The Magen David Adom medical service, which operates the ambulance, said the vehicle was struck by a rocket whilst traveling to attend to a call. The driver was treated by his colleagues for mild injuries and taken to Soroka Hospital, according to the source.

Israeli media outlet I24 described the munition as an “anti-tank projectile” and reported that the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad had claimed responsibility for the strike.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Hamas had claimed responsibility for the attack saying it was “in retaliation to [Israel’s] crimes and aggression on the holy city and brutality against our people in Sheikh Jarrah and Al Aqsa Mosque.” According to the source a spokesman for the group, Abu Obeida, said it would step up its attacks if Israel ramps up theirs. However, it is unclear if Hamas was specifically referring to this incident as they only referenced targeting Jerusalem.

A video, posted to the Magen David Adom Twitter account, shows one of its vehicles with a broken window. According to the source, the strike took place between the hours of 19:00 and 22:30.

The incident occured between 7:00 pm and 10:30 pm local time.

Airwars assessment

One civilian was injured in declared mortar attacks from Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, in Gaza to Israel whilst coming to the aid of Israeli military personnel in Netiv HaAsara, southern Israel on May 12th, 2021, according to local reports.

Gil Timor, the Deputy Chairman of the Ashkelon Beach Regional Council, was injured in the shoulder by shrapnel whilst attempting to rescue dead and wounded soldiers from a jeep, said Matan Tzuri, a journalist with Ynet.

The Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigade issued a military statement, which declared its responsibility for the attack on a “Zionist “Defender” jeep near the usurped Netiv Hasara in the northern Gaza Strip.” It reported that the result was “the enemy admitted destroying the jeep, killing two soldiers and wounding others.”

As well as declaring “two dead after Al-Qassam destroyed a Zionist enclave with a Kornet missile,” Al-Qassam also released a statement which declared that they used “21 mortar shells of different calibers” for this attack.  Other sources also reported that two soliders were killed in this attack.

The Times of Israel reported the incident began when Hamas targeted an Israeli military jeep using an anti-tank guided missile killing one soldier and injuring two others. Following the attack mortars targeted the area. Several Arabic-language media sources noted that Mr Timor’s injuries were the result of a mortar.

Itamar Revivo, a colleague of Mr Timor told 13 News: “In the morning we received a warning about a possible event around Zikim, we toured the place and continued to another village, when suddenly we heard a loud explosion and received a report of a vehicle being hit. We started evacuating the wounded, and the place began to be significantly attacked.”

Following the incident a video was posted online bearing the logo of the al-Qassam Brigade which purported to show moment of the strike against the jeep.

The Barzilai Medical Center received four patients following the incident, including the soldiers, according to local journalist Emanuel Fabian.

The incident occured in the morning.

The victims were named as:
