Airwars assessment

As many as 15 civilians were killed, including three children and a woman, and many more were wounded, in airstrikes on Douma. Sources were conflicted as to whether Russia or the Syrian regime were to blame.

Seven deceased civilians were named however four were reported by VDC as unidentified.

As many as nine civilians were reported as injured, including four children, a woman and four members of the Syrian Civil Defence. Yasser, 18 months old, was named as injured by the Civil Defence twitter page. He was put in intensive care, according to the source.

A Syrian Civil Defence ambulance was struck by one of the raids while on a rescue mission, according to local media.

There were as many as 40 intensive raids on the vicinity.

Khaled Mahmoud al-Daas was also named but as a non-civilian.

Three civilians were killed, including two children and one woman, and dozens more were injured, in air and artillery strikes on the area between Douma and Misraba, local sources reported.

The raids struck a residential vicinity however there were no reports of material damage.

The deaths and wounded occurred “as a result of the shelling of more than 25 rocket launchers and eight artillery shells on residential areas in the area between Masara and Duma in Al Ghouta”.

Two to four civilians were killed and several others were wounded in air and artillery strikes on Harasta, according to local media. Sources blamed both Russian and Syrian regime warplanes for the raids.

Mohamad Al Shaar, who named the civilians, reported that Ibrahim Far’oun (Al Harb), aged 18, was Al Mujahed (fighter). This suggests he may have been a combatant.

Between 25 and 30 raids struck the vicinity, including explosive barrels by the regime, according to media.

There were several injuries, some of them serious.

The incident occured at 19:00:00 local time.

A number of civilians were wounded in an alleged Turkish shelling of Mirkan, Syria, according to sources on the ground.

Hawar News reported: “The Turkish occupation army shelled the center of the area of Mabata and the village of Mircan. It used heavy artillery and missiles, and according to preliminary information, there are wounded civilians.”

IC Afrin said that initial information from local sources indicated that there were “many civilian casualties”.

The Military Council for the city of Manbij and countryside reported that “on the outskirts of Mirkan village, indiscriminate shelling continued with heavy weapons and targeted civilians directly. Many of them were wounded in the shelling”.

Other sources also reported Turkish artillery shelling.

As many as “30 Syrian shells” were fired on the vicinity, according to Sky News. Rockets and barrel bombs coming from helicopters targeted the residential neighbourhood.

Local sources reported that up to two civilians were killed and between one to four seriously injured in an alleged Coalition airstrike on the village of Afra al Barjari, on the evening of March 2nd.

Multiple sources identified some of the adult male victims.

The civilians were said to have been in their car when they were hit by an airstrike and according to a local source quoted by Zaman Al Wasl, the passengers were on the road between Abu Hamda and Al Touymen.

The same report also stated that apart from the civilian victims, two members of so-called Islamic State were killed in the airstrike.

In its monthly civilian casualty assessment for September 2019 – published on November 15th – the alliance classed the event as ‘non credible’, asserting that “After a review of all available records it was determined that, more likely than not, civilian casualties did not occur as a result of a Coalition action.”

Coalition officials confirmed to Airwars that their review was a match for this event, and provided coordinates for the area assessed to within 100 metres.

The incident occured around dusk.
