Up to 12 civilians including four children and four women died and as many as dozens more were wounded in airstrikes on Batbo town. The majority of sources attributed the event to Russia; however, several blamed the Syrian regime while some others didn’t distinguish between Russian or regime jets.
According to the Shaam News Network, “Russian warplanes targeted the town of Batbo at noon today [Sept 10th]. This resulted in deaths and injuries and destruction of residential structures.
Activists said warplanes struck civilian houses with several missiles resulting in dramatic damage to seven homes, and claiming the lives of more than nine martyrs with many wounded. The civil defense teams worked to dig out those trapped under the rubble and transport the injured to hospitals and medical facilities”.
The Network added that the Grand Mosque in the town came “under direct bombardment”, partially destroying its walls and completely putting it out of service.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights, who initially blamed the regime but then appeared to change its position and point to Russia, said that the strikes ” targeted the vicinity of Mousa ben Nousair mosque in Batbo town”. It put the death toll at 12 including four children and four women.
Other sources that blamed Russia included LCCSY, Qasioun, the Step News Agency, Jisrtv, Alamawi and Baladi – who added that “dozens” of people were wounded. Qasioun, who put the death toll at nine, reported that 30 more people sustained injuries.
However, SMO and Syriansnews attributed the event to the Assad regime.
Al Jazeera and Abohamzaljaber blamed both “Russian and Syrian warplanes”.
Halab News – who blamed Russia – named civilian fatalities.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
