Airwars assessment

Between two and three civilians, including two women and a female child, were killed and others were wounded in alleged Russian or regime airstrikes against the town of Ba’arbo in the southern countryside of Idlib. At the time of their death, the civilians that were killed were riding in a car. According to @Omar_Madaniah, the civilians killed in the airstrikes were members of a family that had been displaced from Kal’et al Madeek.

Conflicting reports were given as to who was responsible for the airstrikes against Ba’arbo. While Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that Russia was responsible for carrying out the airstrikes, @huseen_syria attributed the airstrikes to regime planes.

At least two civilians were injured in alleged Russian airstrikes on the outskirts of Sarja in the southern Idlib countryside. Conflicting reports were given as to who was responsible for the airstrikes, with Idlib Media Centre and @eyadne61 identifying Russian planes as responsible while @RevoZamalka published that the airstrikes were believed to be carried out by the regime.

According to the Smart News Agency, “a local source said on Thursday night that a civilian was killed and three others were injured in the village of Safsaf west of Raqqa in a bombardment likely to be from the French artillery stationed in the village of Ja’aber in the countryside under the control of SDF“.

Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently reported “Heavy artillery shelling by the Kurdish militias” in the vicinity, but didn’t mention civilian casualties.

One civilian died in an alleged Coalition airstrike on Al Salhabiya and Gharbiya, according to local sources.

Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently reported: “Coalition planes targeted trucks in the western village of Al Salhabiya, west of Raqqa, that were trying to open the road from Al Salhabiya to Al Raqqa after the flood of the al Ballikh channel, Balikh, killing the driver of a truck.”

According to All4Syria, a Coalition strike killed one man when “a bulldoze was targeted, killing the driver as he was trying to open the Salhibiya-Raqqa road after flooding of the Belikh Canal”.

In an incident not previously tracked by Airwars, the Coalition later confirmed the deaths of seven civilians in an event in the al Matahin neighbourhood in western Mosul.

The June 2017 civilian casualty report noted “During a strike on an ISIS headquarters, it was assessed that two civilians were unintentionally killed when they entered the target area after the munition was released.”

Coordinates supplied by officials to Airwars placed the event in the Al Matahin neighbourhood. None of the six strikes reported by Airwars that day in Mosul were located in the Al Matahin neighbourhood or in its vicinity.
