Airwars assessment

At least one civilian, a woman, was killed and between two and three civilians, including a woman and one to two children, were injured in alleged Russian or regime airstrikes on Al Atareb on June 23, 2021.

According to Halab Today, “the family sat at the table to eat breakfast, when an artillery shell from the regime forces surprised them, injuring a woman and her child in the city of Atarib”.

@anasanas84 tweeted that “a woman and several children” had been injured and attributed the strikes to Russia and the regime in addition to Al Atareb Media Office posting that “a woman and two children were injured”. Images provided by @Tb7FgaFJwxqQlKu show two children, a boy and a girl, with injuries. Radio Al Kul also reported that one of the children injured was the son of the woman involved in the incident.

@ZaitunAgency reported that the woman that was injured “succumbed to her injuries” and @syriapostnew1 also reported that a woman was killed.

The Syrian American Medical Society added that “our staff at Atarib Surgical Hospital received wounded civilians, provided them with all medical services, and a woman was transferred to Bab al-Hawa Hospital to complete treatment.”

Various sources identified the home that was bombed as being close to the Turkish military post and Baladi News pinpointed the location as “near the Turkish point in the “Al-Wasata” area”. Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that the strikes severely damaged the house’s structure.

Sources were conflicted as to whether Russia or the regime were responsible.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
