On Dec. 11, Coalition military forces conducted 19 strikes against ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted nine strikes using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted ten strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter, rotary and remotely piloted aircraft as well as rocket artillery against ISIL targets.

* Near Abu Kamal, one strike destroyed seven oil tanker trucks and an oil well head.

Friday 9 December – Typhoons demolished a Daesh-held building in eastern Mosul, while a Reaper struck a further three terrorist groups, including a mortar team, in central Mosul…Another Reaper enjoyed similar success the following day, Friday 9 December, when it also operated over central Mosul. It conducted three Hellfire attacks against Daesh fighters, including some armed with rocket-propelled grenades, and a mortar team that was spotted as it opened fire. In the east of the city, Typhoons assisted Iraqi forces as they fought a Daesh group holding a building at the end of a street. Particular care was taken in planning the air attack, as the Iraqi troops were very close to the target, but our aircrew were able to score a direct hit with a Paveway IV, which destroyed the building and removed the threat to the ground forces.

Coalition airstrikes destroy 168 ISIL oil tanker trucks in Syria

SOUTHWEST ASIA – In the largest air strike of its kind to date, Coalition airstrikes destroyed a fleet of 168 ISIL oil tanker trucks near Palmya, Syria, Dec. 8, 2016.

“The Coalition continues to forcefully prosecute the air war on ISIL revenue capability,” said Col. John L. “JD” Dorrian, CJTF-OIR Spokesman. “When ISIL has access to large sums of money, they use it to conduct violent terror attacks against anyone who doesn’t share their barbaric ideology.”

The Coalition is systematically targeting ISIL-affiliated oil infrastructure to eliminate millions of dollars in potential revenue. This most recent strike resulted in estimated lost revenue of more than $2 million. Stopping or severely hampering ISIL cash flow degrades their ability to fund the war effort in Iraq and Syria and terrorist attacks around the world.

The destruction of ISIL oil tanker trucks and petroleum equipment is just one of the multiple targets the Coalition strikes to hasten the military defeat ISIL in Iraq and Syria by, with and through partnered forces.

Thursday 8 December – Tornados destroyed an armoured personnel carrier in southern Mosul, a Reaper attacked three targets in the city centre…Tornados and a Reaper patrolled over Mosul on Thursday 8 December. The Tornados were able to use the small, highly accurate Brimstone missile to dispose safely of an armoured personnel carrier positioned close to a hospital in the south of the city. Meanwhile, the Reaper hunted targets in the city centre, using three Hellfire missiles to pick off groups of extremists caught moving in the open.
