On Feb. 15, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 10 strikes using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 20 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using rocket artillery and fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

Syria

. Near Abu Kamal, six strikes [1 British] struck an ISIL weapons cache, an ISIL headquarters, three ISIL weapons storage facilities, and an ISIL barracks.

. Near Al Hasakah, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL building.

. Near Ar Raqqah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle.

. Near Al Hawl, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed three ISIL buildings and damaged a separate ISIL building.

Iraq

. Near Al Baghdadi, one strike destroyed seven ISIL rocket rails and an ISIL weapons cache.

. Near Al Qaim, nine strikes [1 French] struck an ISIL improvised explosive device (IED) facility, an ISIL logistics facility, an ISIL staging area, two ISIL internet cafés, two ISIL headquarters, and an ISIL media headquarters.

. Near Fallujah, one strike destroyed two ISIL vehicles, two ISIL heavy machine guns, and an ISIL bunker.

. Near Kirkuk, one strike [1 British] struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL weapons cache, and three ISIL fighting positions.

. Near Mosul, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position and an ISIL bunker.

. Near Ramadi, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL front end loader.

. Near Sinjar, two strikes destroyed three ISIL fighting positions and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

. Near Tal Afar, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position and an ISIL bunker.

On Monday 15 February, two Tornado GR4s conducted an armed reconnaissance patrol over northern Iraq in support of Kurdish security forces. A group of Daesh extremists were identified in a pair of buildings south-west of Kirkuk and were able to attack both at the same time with Paveway IV bombs. A Brimstone missile destroyed a terrorist vehicle and before the Tornados returned to base a Paveway was used to attack a weapons cache.

Meanwhile, RAF Typhoons alongside other coalition aircraft conducted a series of coordinated attacks on Daesh facilities. The targets included a large weapons store at Abu Kamal, on the Syrian bank of the Euphrates which was destroyed with four Paveway IVs. An RAF Reaper provided surveillance support to several of the other coalition attacks.

* Near Ayn Isa, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL buildings and an ISIL fighting position.

Iraq

* Near Al Huwayjah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

* Near Fallujah, two strikes [1 Canadian] struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL bunker.

* Near Habbaniyah, one strike [1 British] struck a large ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL staging area.

* Near Kisik, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position and an ISIL heavy machine gun and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

* Near Mosul, four strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position, an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL supply cache, four ISIL assembly areas, and an ISIL checkpoint.

* Near Ramadi, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

* Near Samarra, one strike destroyed three ISIL tactical vehicles and an ISIL crane.

* Near Sinjar, two strikes destroyed an ISIL fighting position and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

On Sunday 14 February, a Tornado mission successfully targeted a compound north of Habbaniyah, where around 16 Daesh extremists had been observed, striking it with a pair of Paveway IVs.

Whilst the Typhoons and Tornados were providing direct close air support to the Iraqi ground forces, Reaper remotely piloted aircraft and Sentinel strategic surveillance aircraft conducted extensive reconnaissance missions across Daesh-held areas of Iraq and Syria to help gather the vital intelligence which allows coalition forces to conduct effective air strikes on the terrorists. As Daesh are steadily driven back in Iraq, it is as important to determine where they no longer have a presence as it is to find where they are located. On the ground, British military instructors continue to play their part in the coalition programme to build up the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces; the specific training and equipment which the UK has provided to help the Iraqi troops deal with improvised explosive devices is proving particularly important as they now seek to make the streets of Ramadi safe to allow the many displaced people to begin returning to rebuild their lives.

On 14 February 2016, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIL fighting position in the vicinity of Fallujah using precision guided munitions.

Nederlandse F-16’s voerden ongeveer 10 missies uit boven Irak en Oost-Syrië, waarbij wapens zijn ingezet tegen gevechtsposities, militaire middelen en strategische doelen van de terreurorganisatie ISIS.

Nederlandse militairen leiden samen met collega’s van coalitielanden Iraakse commando’s en Koerdische strijders op. Die worden getraind om terreurorganisatie ISIS op de grond te bestrijden. In Bagdad geven zij diverse opleidingen, zoals een commando-opleiding en een scherpschutterscursus. Voor de medische opleiding slaagden afgelopen week 24 cursisten. 119 cursisten ontvingen een certificaat, omdat zij de infantry battle course met goed gevolg doorliepen. 12 cursisten die getraind werden in het leidinggeven aan een bataljon, ontvingen een diploma.
