January 1st 2015: U.S. and partner nation military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria, [Jan 1st 2015], using fighter, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft to conduct 17 airstrikes. Separately, U.S. and partner nation military forces conducted 12 airstrikes in Iraq, Dec. 31, 2014, using fighter, attack, and remotely piloted aircraft against the ISIL terrorists. The following is a summary of the strikes conducted since the last press release:

Syria

* Near Al Raqqah, two airstrikes destroyed five ISIL checkpoints and struck an ISIL staging area.

* Near Dayr az Zawr, two airstrikes destroyed an ISIL fighting position and struck an ISIL shipping container.

* Near Kobani, 13 airstrikes destroyed 12 ISIL buildings, four ISIL fighting positions, one ISIL vehicle and struck two ISIL tactical units and two large ISIL units.

Iraq

* Near Mosul, seven airstrikes destroyed six ISIL buildings and an ISIL fighting position and struck three ISIL fighting positions, five ISIL tactical units, two buildings, and a large ISIL unit.

* Near Fallujah, three airstrikes [1 Canadian?] destroyed two ISIL fighting positions and struck two ISIL tactical units and a large ISIL unit.

* Near Sinjar, one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

* Near Taji, one airstrike destroyed two ISIL vehicles and one ISIL mortar system and struck an ISIL tactical unit.

Depuis le 23 décembre 2015, les équipages français ont réalisé 83 sorties aériennes au-dessus des zones contrôlées par Daech en Irak et en Syrie, dont 60 de bombardement en appui des troupes irakiennes au sol ou sur un objectif planifié, et 13 de recueil de renseignement. 23 frappes ont détruit 34 objectifs de Daech.

* Near Kisik, one strike destroyed an ISIL bunker.

* Near Sinjar, two strikes [1 Canadian, 1 British] struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle and an ISIL fighting position and suppressed an ISIL mortar position and a light machine gun position.

On 30 December 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position south east of Sinjar, Iraq, using precision guided munitions.

On Wednesday 30 December, two Tornado GR4s provided close air support over Ramadi, where they bombed two machine-gun positions engaged in close combat with Iraqi troops, and assisted another coalition aircraft in a strike on a Daesh team armed with rocket-propelled grenades.

Near Sinjar, Typhoons assisted the peshmerga with an attack on a terrorist rocket launcher team. Typhoons and Tornados continued to patrol the Sinjar area on the last day of the year, using Paveways against a heavy machine-gun position and a Daesh group firing on Kurdish troops.

On Dec. 29, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted four strikes using attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 24 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter, attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. * Near Al Hasakah, one strike destroyed an ISIL excavator.

* Near Aleppo, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle.

* Near Sultan Abdallah, two strikes destroyed eight ISIL fighting positions and suppressed an ISIL sniper position.

* Near Albu Hayat, one strike destroyed an ISIL tactical vehicle and an ISIL vehicle.

* Near Hit, one strike struck an ISIL VBIED storage facility.

The following day [December 29th 2016], Typhoons and Tornado GR4s operated over Ramadi, as the Iraqi forces closed in on remaining pockets of Daesh extremists. The Typhoons bombed two machine-gun positions, while the Tornados conducted three attacks on a further two machine-gun nests and a strongpoint. Despite bad weather meaning that these attacks had to be carried out through thick cloud and with Iraqi soldiers in close proximity to the targets, careful planning by the aircrew and the precision guidance systems of the Paveway IV bombs allowed all the attacks to be successful without risk to friendly forces.

Later on Tuesday evening, a Typhoon flying near Mosul was directed against a tunnel, where a large group of terrorists had been spotted massing inside. A direct hit was scored with a Paveway on the tunnel.

On Dec. 28, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted nine strikes using attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter, attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. * Near Al Hawl, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL fighting positions and an ISIL tunnel complex.

* Near Fallujah, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed two ISIL fighting positions, two ISIL bunkers, two ISIL tunnel entrances, an ISIL vehicle, and an ISIL trench system.

* Near Kirkuk, one strike destroyed two ISIL excavators.

* Near Kisik, three strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL fighting position and wounded two ISIL fighters.

* Near Mosul, five strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL vehicles, 14 ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL tunnel, and three ISIL command and control nodes.

* Near Qayyarah, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL fighting positions and an ISIL vehicle.

Syria

* Near Mar’a, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units.

On Monday 28 December, a Typhoon FGR4 flight conducted a simultaneous attack with Paveway IV bombs on two buildings north-east of Mosul, occupied by a group of terrorist fighters. Both buildings were demolished, along with the terrorists’ vehicle. The Typhoons then used Paveways to destroy two mechanical excavators being used by Daesh to construct defensive positions.

A second Typhoon mission was later flown over northern Iraq, and it delivered a successful Paveway IV strike on a team of terrorists who were preparing to fire rockets at Kurdish positions.

On Dec. 27, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 16 strikes using attack and remotely piloted aircraft. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 21 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using rocket artillery and fighter, attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

RAF operations on Sunday 27 December focused largely on northern Iraq, with Typhoons using Paveway bombs to engage an armoured vehicle and mortar teams in the area of Tal Afar and Kisik.

South-west of Mosul, a Tornado flight destroyed two terrorist-occupied buildings with Paveway IVs, then attacked a group of extremists in the open.

A second Typhoon patrol over the northern region assisted Kurdish peshmerga in close combat with Daesh, striking two terrorist groups with Paveway IVs.

On 27 December 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting positions south east of Sinjar using precision guided munitions.

Iraqi Security Forces Seize Ramadi Government Center

BAGHDAD, IRAQ – Iraqi military leaders announced today Iraqi Security Forces seized the Government Center in Ramadi from Da’esh (the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State).

The Coalition congratulates the Iraqi Security Forces for its success in Ramadi. The ISF operations to reach the center of Ramadi are a significant milestone on the path to clear Da’esh from the historic city and the overall campaign to defeat the terrorist group across Iraq.

“The Iraqi Security Forces, including the Counter-Terrorism Service, the Iraqi Army, the Iraqi Air Force, the federal and local police, and the tribal fighters, have demonstrated their resolve in the fight for Ramadi,” said Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force supporting Iraqi security operations. “I also want to commend the thousands of troops of the Coalition who have made this success possible through relentless strikes against Da’esh, training and equipping support to the Iraqi Security Forces, and advice and assistance provided to Iraqi security leaders. This success belongs to them as well, and we will all work together to defeat our common enemy.”

Coalition support to operations in Ramadi include more than 600 strikes focused against Da’esh targets in and around Ramadi, training and equipping of multiple elements of the Iraqi Security Forces, providing specialized engineering equipment to clear improvised explosives devices, and providing advice and assistance at multiple Iraqi headquarters.
