Missionerne, som de danske fly har deltaget i, har været offensive, og de danske fly har i den forløbne periode primært deltaget i missioner i Salah al Din, Al Anbar og Ninawa provinserne. Målene for bomberne har været bygninger og fjendtlige våbenstillinger.

De danske fly har fløjet Close Air Support-missioner (CAS), hvor flyene er indsat direkte som luftstøtte til styrker på landjorden. Her vil flyene patruljere over et bestemt område, hvorefter de vil kunne blive indsat af koalitionen, når der er behov for støtte. Luftstøtten vil variere afhængig af, hvad der er behov for. Det kan både dreje sig om overvågningsopgaver og bombninger af mål.

På de missioner, hvor de danske F-16 ikke har anvendt våben, har de bidraget med overvågning og indhentning af efterretninger. På sådanne overvågningsmissioner er flyene dog altid klar til at anvende våben, hvis der er behov for det.

Siden første mission den 16. oktober 2014, har det danske bidrag i alt fløjet 328 missioner og anvendt 271 bomber. Alle de danske bomber er præcisionsstyrede, hvilket vil sige, at de styres mod deres mål ved hjælp af enten laser eller GPS.

Thursday 7 May saw Tornado GR4s supporting Kurdish forces north of Mosul, with our aircraft destroying another terrorist heavy machine-gun position, which had opened fire on the peshmerga.

En parallèle, à terre, les actions de formation au profit de 300 stagiaires ICTS se poursuivent. De plus, de nouvelles formations dispensées par la 3e brigade légère blindée ont débuté en avril au profit de la 6e division d’infanterie irakienne. Celles-ci sont orientées sur les besoins identifiés et exprimés par cette division irakienne, à savoir dans le domaine du secourisme de combat, de la lutte contre les engins explosifs improvisés, et de la mécanique sur matériel roulant.

Lancée depuis le 19 septembre 2014, l’opération Chammal mobilise 700 militaires. Elle vise, à la demande du gouvernement irakien et en coordination avec les alliés de la France présents dans la région, à assurer un soutien aérien aux forces irakiennes dans la lutte contre le groupe terroriste autoproclamé Daech. Le dispositif complet est actuellement structuré autour de douze avions de chasse de l’armée de l’Air (six Rafale et six Mirage 2000D), d’un avion de contrôle aérien E3F et d’un avion de patrouille maritime Atlantique 2 de la Marine nationale.

On 6th May GR4s then provided support to the Kurdish peshmerga on Tuesday 6 May near Mosul, and conducted air strikes with Paveways on ISIL sniper and heavy machine-gun positions.

On Wednesday 6 May, an RAF Reaper flew overwatch for advancing Iraqi troops in Anbar province. The Reaper’s crew used the aircraft’s advanced surveillance systems to identify a heavy machine-gun position, which was successfully attacked with a Hellfire missile. Two further ISIL positions were also struck shortly afterwards.

On 6 May 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi Security Forces, two CF-188 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position north of Bayji using precision guided munitions.

Syria

• Near Al Hasakah, an airstrike destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

Iraq

• Near Bayji, three airstrikes struck one large and two small ISIL tactical units, destroying three ISIL fighting positions, two ISIL structures, an ISIL warehouse, an ISIL heavy machine gun, an ISIL excavator and an ISIL rocket-propelled grenade.

• Near Fallujah, three airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units, destroying two ISIL structures, two ISIL vehicles and an ISIL mortar tube.

• Near Mosul, four airstrikes struck three ISIL fighting positions, destroying an ISIL excavator.

• Near Ramadi, an airstrike struck an ISIL large tactical unit, destroying three ISIL structures, three ISIL tanks and an ISIL armored vehicle.

• Near Tal Afar, an airstrike destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

Tornado GR4s also assisted Iraqi troops on the evening of Monday 4 May; whilst trying to evacuate wounded comrades, the soldiers came under heavy fire from terrorists positioned in two buildings. Despite the proximity of the friendly forces, careful planning and the accuracy of the Paveway system allowed the GR4s to destroy both terrorist positions and remove the threat to the troops on the ground.

May 4th 2015 – Coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Iraq between 8 a.m., May 3, and 8 a.m., May 4, local time. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 airstrikes approved by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense using attack, bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL terrorists.

“In support of the government of Iraq, the coalition continues to make progress against Daesh in the region by striking military resources such as caches and weapon systems,” said Brig. Gen. Thomas Weidley, CJTF-OIR chief of staff.
