SITUATION MILITAIRE DU THÉÂTRE

L’opération Chammal se poursuit, et les Armées restent résolument engagées dans leur lutte contre l’organisation terroriste Daech.

Les avions français poursuivent leurs missions sur l’ensemble de la zone d’opération et ont été rejoints par le groupe aérien embarqué du porte-avions Charles de Gaulle.

ACTIVITÉ DE LA FORCE

Après son transit en Méditerranée orientale, le groupe aéronaval (GAN) constitué autour du porte-avions Charles de Gaulle en Task Force 473, est entré le mercredi 29 janvier en zone Chammal, le volet français de l’opération Inherent Resolve visant à lutter contre le terrorisme djihadiste.

Le porte-avions est accompagné de la frégate de défense antiaérienne Chevalier Paul, de la frégate multimissions Auvergne, du bâtiment de commandement et de ravitaillement Var, et de la frégate légère furtive Surcouf, et d’un sous-marin nucléaire d’attaque.

Lors du transit vers la Méditerranée orientale, le Groupe Aérien embarqué (GAé) est rapidement monté en puissance pour être en mesure d’entamer dès le 29 janvier les premiers vols en zone d’opérations, au-dessus de l’Irak. Ces vols allient capacités de reconnaissance, de renseignement, d’appui aux troupes au sol et de combat aérien, offrant un soutien aux troupes françaises déjà engagées dans l’opération Chammal, ainsi qu’aux membres de la coalition internationale de lutte contre Daech.

Le GAN a été engagé sur ce théâtre au cours des opérations Arromanches I, II et III et Clemenceau pour une durée totale de 15 mois entre 2015 et 2019.

Le GAN représente une capacité de projection au loin et dans la profondeur qui en fait un instrument stratégique unique et un outil de puissance politico-militaire pour la France. Il est capable de contribuer simultanément à la maîtrise des espaces aéromaritimes, à l’entretien de la capacité d’appréciation autonome de situation et à la projection de puissance.

Ø CHAMMAL : Le RAFALE, un avion polyvalent à réaction… immédiate
Les RAFALE du porte-avions viennent compléter le dispositif aérien de Chammal, composé des RAFALE de l’armée de l’Air, basés en Jordanie et aux Émirats arabes unis.

Le RAFALE, avion de chasse ultra-polyvalent, est capable de remplir plusieurs missions : supériorité et défense aériennes, appui feu rapproché, frappe de précision, reconnaissance. L’appareil multirôles est capable d’accomplir toutes ces tâches au cours d’une seule et même mission.

Ainsi, sur une mission de Close Air Support (CAS), ou appui aérien rapproché, les RAFALE sont souvent amenés à faire, en plus de la protection de zone, de la défense aérienne et du renseignement. Avant, toutes ces missions n’étaient pas réalisables simultanément sur des avions comme le Mirage 2000.

Depuis sa mise en service, le RAFALE a fait ses preuves en opération notamment en Afghanistan, en Libye, au Mali, en Irak et en Syrie, totalisant plus de 30 000 heures de vol. Sur le théâtre de l’opération Chammal, il se montre interopérable, c’est-à-dire qu’il est apte à combattre au sein d’une coalition en suivant des procédures communes. Le colonel Souberbielle, commandant la base aérienne projetée au Levant, en témoigne : « Le RAFALE est un avion fantastique. Notre objectif n’a pas changé ici, vaincre Daech et protéger la Force. En revanche, le théâtre est devenu complexe ; cela implique que les pilotes doivent parfois s’adapter et passer d’une mission à une autre en plein vol. Cette capacité de réaction immédiate est très appréciée de la Coalition ».
