Tuesday 17 May – Typhoons and Tornados destroyed weapon caches and heavy machine-gun positions in northern and western Iraq…Tornados operated north of Mosul on Tuesday 17 May and conducted a successful attack with Paveways on a group of three buildings near Bashiqah, which housed weapon stockpiles. The same day, a Typhoon flight used a pair of Paveways to destroy two machine-gun positions which Daesh were attempting to establish on the northern bank of the Euphrates near Hit following their recent defeat by the Iraqis in the town.

Chammal : 15 frappes contre Daech en Irak cette semaine, 22 objectifs détruits

Du 11 au 17 mai 2016, les aéronefs de l’opération Chammal ont poursuivi leurs missions aériennes contre Daech en réalisant 45 sorties dont 40 de bombardement, 2 de recueil de renseignement et 3 de contrôle de l’espace aérien. Au total 15 frappes ont détruit 22 objectifs de Daech.

Cette semaine, l’effort de la force Chammal a porté sur les missions d’appui au profit des forces irakiennes engagées au sol contre Daech. Monday 16 May – Tornados destroyed a bunker containing ammunition in western Iraq…RAF support to Iraqi ground forces along the Euphrates continued on Monday 16 May, when Tornados used a Paveway bomb to destroy a small Daesh bunker containing ammunition supplies.

Friday 13 May – Reapers engaged mortar teams and a supply truck in northern Iraq; Tornados destroyed Daesh positions in western Iraq…Two RAF Reapers followed up by providing close air support to the peshmerga as they advanced on Friday 13 May, conducting a total of four attacks with three Hellfires and a GBU-12 guided bomb. They destroyed mortar teams and a Daesh supply truck, as well as providing surveillance support to a coalition air strike which destroyed a terrorist strongpoint. Tornados were meanwhile again assisting Iraqi ground forces in the Euphrates valley, and destroyed two Daesh-held buildings on the northern bank of the river.

Wednesday 11 May – Tornados provided close air support to Iraqi troops engaged in close combat in western Iraq, destroying a terrorist strongpoint…On Wednesday 11 May, Tornados again assisted Iraqi ground forces in the Euphrates valley, when they came up against a heavily defended Daesh building, which was demolished with a Paveway.

IRAK / SYRIE : CHAMMAL

En Irak, la situation militaire reste globalement stable. Daech est sur la défensive et concentre ses moyens sur la région de Mossoul. Les forces irakiennes poursuivent leur avancée dans les vallées du Tigre et de l’Euphrate.

• Dans la vallée du Tigre, les Forces de sécurité irakiennes (FSI) sont toujours engagées dans la prise du verrou de Qayyarah. Elles progressent lentement face à une âpre défense de Daech.
• Dans la vallée de l’Euphrate, la ville de Hit a été reprise par les FSI.
• La réduction de poches de résistance adverses a permis de rétablir la liberté de circulation entre les villes d’Haditha et de Ramadi.
• Dans le même temps les FSI ont lancé l’opération visant à reconquérir la ville de Falloujah.

En Syrie, les frappes restent dirigées contre les unités combattantes, les centres de commandement et les capacités logistiques de Daech. Il s’agit donc de détruire les capacités de fonctionnement du système que représente le groupe terroriste. Les résultats de la coalition sont significatifs Daech n’a plus la liberté de mouvement nécessaire pour reprendre le dessus, ni basculer ses forces entre l’Irak et la Syrie. Cependant, Daech conserve une capacité de résistance. Les forces du groupe terroriste se sont ainsi installées en défense ferme de certains points, comme Fallouja et les abords est de Qayyarah en Irak, ou encore les faubourgs de Deir ez Zor, ou le sud de Shadadi, en Syrie. La situation indique donc que le combat pourrait être encore long. ACTIVITÉS DE LA FORCE CHAMMAL Depuis le 3 mai 2016, la composante aérienne de l’opération Chammal a réalisé 63 sorties dont 54 de bombardement et 9 de recueil de renseignement. Elles ont permis la réalisation de 17 frappes, aboutissant à la destruction de 37 objectifs. Cette semaine la force Chammal a fait porter son effort sur l’appui des troupes au sol Dans la région de Falloujah, le 5 mai, les avions français ont frappé à quatre reprises et en quelques heures des positions de défense de Daech qui bloquaient l’avancée des FSI. Dans le même temps, la France a conduit 2 frappes planifiées :

• le 3 mai, une patrouille de 2 Mirage 2000D a réalisé un raid dans la région de Mossoul contre un poste de commandement militaire de l’organisation terroriste.
• le 9 mai, une patrouille de 2 Mirage 2000D a frappé près de Kirkuk un site de dépôt de munitions et d’atelier pour assembler des véhicules piégés.

RAF Sentry airborne command and control platforms have also been playing their part in the overall direction of the air campaign against Daesh. A typical Sentry mission on 10 May saw it controlling some 40 coalition aircraft operating over Syria and Iraq, including several RAF reconnaissance missions.

Dans le même temps, elle a continué à exploiter le renseignement recueilli les semaines précédentes en conduisant deux frappes planifiées sur des objectifs d’importance.

Monday 9 May – Tornados and Typhoons struck Daesh targets in western and northern Iraq, including a command post, a tunnel network and mortar and rocket positions…RAF Typhoon FGR4s, armed with Paveway IV guided bombs, conducted successful attacks on Monday 9 May against a group of Daesh extremists hiding in a tunnel network dug into a riverbank north-west of Kirkuk and against two rocket launcher positions north of Mosul.

Other Typhoons, and Tornado GR4s provided close air support to the Iraqi troops operating in the Euphrates valley. The Typhoons struck a mortar position north of the Al Asad airbase, while the Tornados destroyed a terrorist command post situated nearby in a riverside building in the midst of a palm grove.

Le 09 mai 2016 plusieurs missions ont mobilisé l’ensemble des aéronefs de la base aérienne projetée en Jordanie (BAP), aboutissant à la destruction d’une demi-douzaine d’objectifs. Lors de cette journée les huit Mirage 2000D et l’Atlantique2stationnés sur la BAP ont été engagés dans des missions de bombardement au-dessus de l’Irak.

Tôt dans la matinée une patrouille de Mirage 2000D a frappé au nord-est de Mossoul un groupe de combattants de Daech alors qu’il se ravitaillait en munitions.

Un peu plus tard, accompagnés de deux Rafale et d’un bombardier B52 Stratofortress de l’US Air Force, deux Mirage 2000 et l’Atlantique2 sont intervenus au sud-est de Mossoul en appui de forces au sol, détruisant plusieurs positions de tirs ennemies.

Enfin, dans la soirée, une formation de Mirage 2000D accompagnée de chasseurs américains a détruit un site servant à assembler des véhicules piégés dans les environs de Hawijah, à l’ouest de Kirkouk.

Coordonnées par le Centre des opérations aériennes de la coalition situé à Al Udeïd au Qatar, l’ensemble de ces missions s’inscrivent dans la stratégie d’affaiblissement et de désarticulation de Daech en détruisant systématiquement ses moyens militaires et logistiques.

L’activité intense de cette journée, impliquant l’ensemble des avions stationnés sur la BAP, possible grâce l’investissement permanent des équipes de mécaniciens et d’armuriers, illustre l’engagement quotidien de tous les militaires déployés sur ce site.

Lancée depuis le 19 septembre 2014, l’opération Chammal mobilise actuellement 1000 militaires. Elle vise, à la demande du gouvernement irakien et en coordination avec les alliés de la France présents dans la région, à assurer un soutien aérien en Irak et en Syrie dans la lutte contre le groupe terroriste autoproclamé Daech, en frappant l’organisation terroriste avec ses moyens aériens. Le dispositif complet est actuellement structuré autour de quatorze avions de chasse de l’armée de l’Air (six Rafale, huit Mirage2000D) d’un avion de patrouille maritime Atlantique2de la Marine nationale ainsi que de capacités de renseignement, de commandement, de contrôle (C2) et de ravitaillement. Il comprend également une centaine de militaires projetés à Bagdad et Erbil pour la formation et le conseil des états-majors et unités irakiennes.

De Air Task Force Middle East zette wapens in tijdens diverse missies. In het noorden van Irak, in de provincies Erbil, Ninawah en Kirkuk, hielpen de F-16’s grondtroepen. Daarnaast voerden zij luchtaanvallen uit op vooraf vastgestelde doelen. Deze zogeheten Air Interdiction (AI)-missies waren gericht tegen de logistieke capaciteit van ISIS.

On May 8, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted nine strikes using ground-attack, attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 16 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Syria

* Near Al Shadaddi, three strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL fighting positions.

* Near Manbij, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL fighting positions.

* Near Mar’a, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL mortar system, an ISIL vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED), and an ISIL heavy machine gun.

* Near Palmyra, two strikes struck a large ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position and three ISIL vehicles.

Iraq

* Near Al Baghdadi, one strike destroyed an ISIL bunker.

* Near Albu Hayat, one strike destroyed an ISIL weapons cache and an ISIL fuel cache.

* Near Bayji, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

* Near Fallujah, five strikes [1 British] struck five separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed four ISIL fighting positions, three ISIL weapons caches, 20 ISIL rockets, six ISIL rocket rails, an ISIL recoilless rifle, an ISIL VBIED, an ISIL artillery piece, an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL staging area, and an ISIL front end loader.

* Near Habbaniyah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

* Near Hit, one strike destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

* Near Kisik, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL assembly area and an ISIL tunnel.

* Near Mosul, three strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed four ISIL rockets, six ISIL rocket rails, and an ISIL vehicle and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

* Near Sultan Abdallah, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL assembly area and an ISIL mortar position.

Sunday 8 May – Typhoons bombed rocket launchers and three stockpiles of weaponry south of Fallujah…Typhoons were active south of Fallujah on Sunday 8 May, where a rocket launcher was identified in the open with three known caches of ammunition stored nearby. All four targets were struck with Paveway IV guided bombs and successfully destroyed.

On May 7, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.
