November 10th 2014: U.S and partner nation military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria Nov. 7-10 using bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft to conduct twenty-three airstrikes. Separately, U.S. and partner nation military forces conducted eighteen airstrikes in Iraq Nov. 7-10 using attack, bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL terrorists.

In Syria, thirteen airstrikes conducted near Kobani struck an ISIL vehicle and five small ISIL units and destroyed an ISIL-occupied building used for ammunition stockpile, an ISIL command and control building, seven ISIL fighting positions while damaging two ISIL fighting positions.

Eight airstrikes southeast of Dayr Az Zawr damaged several structures of an ISIL oil collection facility which was used to trans-load oil for the black market.

Two airstrikes east of Dayr Az Zawr damaged an ISIL oil collection point.

In Iraq, seven airstrikes near Bayji [including by UK and Canada- see below] struck three small ISIL units and destroyed an ISIL sniper position and two ISIL vehicles, one which was used for construction.

Three airstrikes in Fallujah struck two small ISIL units, ISIL fighters who were emplacing an improvised explosive device (IED) on a road and destroyed an ISIL vehicle mounted with an anti-aircraft gun.

Three airstrikes near Mosul struck a small ISIL unit and destroyed an ISIL armed truck and a vehicle convoy consisting of ten ISIL armed trucks.

Two airstrikes near Al Qaim destroyed an ISIL armored vehicle and two ISIL checkpoints.

An airstrike 40 km southwest of Haditha destroyed two ISIL Humvees.

An airstrike near Ramadi struck a small ISIL unit.

This weekend [November 8th-9th 2014] saw the first air strike by a Royal Air Force Reaper remotely piloted air system (RPAS) as British forces continue to assist the Iraqi Government in their fight against ISIL.

A series of coalition missions were conducted near Bayji, north of Baghdad, where ISIL terrorists were laying improvised explosive devices.

The Reaper RPAS, using procedures identical to those of manned aircraft, successfully attacked the terrorists using a Hellfire missile.

UK Reaper continued to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assistance to coalition aircraft which enabled them to conduct further strikes.

In addition, on Sunday morning [November 9th], 2 RAF Tornado GR4s were tasked to investigate suspected ISIL activity near Al Anbar, west of Baghdad.

A single Brimstone missile was used to successfully destroy a shipping container used by the terrorists to store equipment to support extortion and control of the local population.

On 5 November 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck two ISIS compounds southwest of Sinjar using precision guided munitions.

As part of these preparations for the Kurdish attack, on Thursday 5 November, Tornado GR4s from RAF Akrotiri were able, despite bad weather, to use Paveway IV guided bombs against a pair of ISIL fortified positions near Sinjar; the Kurdish unit whom the GR4s were supporting confirmed that both terrorist positions had been destroyed.

Chammal : Point de situation au 5 novembre 2015

Les FSI ont repris le contrôle de la ville de Bayji. Cette prise revêt trois intérêts : un aspect symbolique qui renforce moralement les FSI ; un aspect économique car elle prive Daech de ressources pétrolifères ; un aspect stratégique enfin car il s’agit d’un point clef du terrain qui permet de contrôler les axes vers Bagdad. Dans le même temps, les unités irakiennes poursuivent leur action en direction de Ramadi dans la vallée de l’Euphrate. Comme ce fut le cas à Baiji, cette action repose sur l’appui permanent de l’aviation de la coalition qui désorganise les éléments de Daech, les FSI pouvant ainsi concentrer leurs efforts pour reprendre les zones tenues.

Entre le 28 octobre et le 4 novembre 2015, la force Chammal a participé à 19 missions (soit 32 sorties) aériennes au-dessus des espaces contrôlés par Daech en Irak et en Syrie, dont 8 missions ISR (10 sorties) et 11 patrouilles de reconnaissance armée (22 sorties). Les aéronefs de l’opération Chammal ont frappé 7 fois et neutralisé 23 objectifs.

Les militaires français participent toujours à la formation des FSI, en particulier celle de l’état-major de la 6e division d’infanterie (DAA6 de Bagdad) régulièrement engagées au combat contre les éléments de Daech à l’ouest de Bagdad. Ils ont pour mission d’améliorer les capacités de commandement et la formation des soldats de cette unité expérimentée d’environ 10 000 hommes. Il s’agit d’une mission de formation sans accompagnement des troupes irakiennes sur le terrain. Le premier mandat (de mars à juillet 2015) a permis de former 150 instructeurs au cours de 17 stages d’une durée de 15 jours. Chaque instructeur étant capable de former à son tour 10 combattants en deux semaines, la 6ème division sera en mesure d’assurer par elle-même la formation de 1500 soldats par mois dans les domaines de la lutte contre les engins explosifs improvisés et le secourisme de combat.

On Sunday 1 November, an RAF Reaper used a Hellfire missile to destroy a group of terrorists in close combat with Iraqi troops, while a second Reaper, operating over Anbar province, worked in close cooperation with coalition fast jets to assist Iraqi operations to isolate the ISIL terrorists in and around Ramadi. The Reaper provided surveillance support to six coalition air strikes on terrorists manoeuvring in the area, and conducted four highly accurate strikes of its own using Hellfire missiles on groups of extremists as they attempted to reposition themselves against the advancing Iraqi forces.

In north-west Iraq, Tornado GR4s were meanwhile supporting Kurdish peshmerga near Sinjar: three Paveway attacks destroyed an armed pick-up truck, a weapons cache, and a sniper position.

On Oct. 30, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted seven strikes using fighter, attack, and bomber aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 14 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, ground-attack, and attack aircraft against ISIL targets.

Syria

• Near Al Hawl, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL

fighting position and an ISIL fighting complex.

• Near Ar Raqqah, one strike struck an ISIL headquarters building.

• Near Dayr Az Zawr, four strikes struck an ISIL crude oil collection point, an ISIL petroleum pump, an ISIL pump station, and destroyed an ISIL crane and an ISIL mobile pump.

Iraq

• Near Al Qaim, one strike struck an ISIL logistical facility.

• Near Kisik, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

• Near Mosul, one strike struck an ISIL fighting position.

• Near Qayyarah, one strike struck an ISIL staging area.

• Near Ramadi, four strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL recoilless rifle, an ISIL heavy machine gun, two ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL mortar system, an ISIL weapons cache, three command and control nodes, and denied ISIL access to terrain.

• Near Sultan Abdallah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and wounded an ISIL

• Near Tal Afar, one strike [Canadian] destroyed an ISIL checkpoint and wounded two ISIL fighters. Strike assessments are based on initial reports. All aircraft returned to base safely.

On 30 October 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position northeast of Tal Afar using precision guided munitions.

On Friday 30 October, a pair of GR4s again provided close air support to the Iraqi army, on this occasion near the occupied city of Ramadi. Two Paveways successfully disrupted an attempted terrorist attack on an Iraqi unit. The ISIL terrorists then opened fire on the Iraqis with two light anti-aircraft cannons. Despite difficult weather conditions, the highly capable GR4s were able to target the gun positions using a second pair of Paveway IVs, and both terrorist guns were knocked out and the threat to them removed.

Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 11 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, and attack aircraft against ISIL targets. * Near Bayji, one strike [British] suppressed three ISIL fighting positions.

* Near Mosul, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

* Near Ramadi, two strikes suppressed an ISIL mortar position and denied ISIL access to terrain.

* Near Sinjar, four strikes destroyed seven ISIL fighting positions, seven ISIL bed down locations, 15 ISIL assembly areas, an ISIL command and control node, three ISIL caches, and four ISIL staging areas.

* Near Tal Afar, three strikes [1 British] destroyed 11 ISIL fighting positions and three ISIL assembly areas.

Tornado GR4s from RAF Akrotiri, supported by a Voyager air-to-air refuelling tanker, provided close air support to Iraqi troops operating near Bayji on Thursday 29 October. A number of ISIL terrorists were observed manoeuvring towards an Iraqi position, and our aircraft successfully attacked three groups with Paveway IV guided bombs.

Later that day, another GR4 flight conducted a strike on a fortified terrorist position near Tal Afar in the north-west of the country, hitting three targets with Paveways.

Au Levant, la situation est surtout marquée par une évolution des lignes de fronts en Irak, principalement dans la zone nord du pays (région Sinjar – Mossoul – Kirkouk) ou Daech semble adoptée une posture défensive. A Baïdji, les Forces de sécurité irakiennes (FSI) reprennent peu à peu le contrôle de la ville. Dans la vallée de l’Euphrate, à l’ouest de Bagdad, la tension entre FSI et Daech reste toujours aussi forte autour de la ville de Ramadi. Dans ce contexte, la coalition poursuit son appui aérien au profit des FSI partout où leurs éléments sont au contact de Daech.

Depuis le 15 octobre 2015, la composante aérienne de la force Chammal a ainsi conduit 42 nouvelles missions, dont 14 missions de renseignement parmi lesquelles 9 au-dessus des zones contrôlées par Daech en Syrie. À Bagdad et Erbil, les militaires français restent par ailleurs engagés dans la formation des FSI, en particulier celle de l’état-major de la 6edivision d’infanterie (DAA6 de Bagdad), ainsi que celle des soldats irakiens de l’Iraki Counter Terrorism Service (ICTS). Cette semaine, les conseillers français ont davantage axé leur formation dans les domaines liés à la conduite des opérations, l’emploi des appuis interarmes et la logistique opérationnelle.
