The following day, Sunday 25 October, an RAF Reaper again joined forces with coalition fast jets to help them target two terrorist-held buildings which were successfully attacked, then mounted two strikes with Hellfire missiles on ISIL terrorists as they attempted to reposition themselves.

On Saturday 24 October, another Reaper worked closely with coalition jets to carry out a series of precision attacks on terrorist positions. The Reaper identified two terrorist sniper positions, which were struck by guided bombs from a coalition aircraft. Advancing Iraqi troops then came into close combat with a group of terrorists; the Reaper maintained close observation on the firefight, and was able to eliminate one terrorist team, without endangering the Iraqi soldiers, using a Hellfire missile.

When the terrorists retreated to positions in a trench and a culvert, the Reaper provided surveillance support to a coalition air strike which destroyed the trench, and conducted a second Hellfire strike itself on the extremists.

On Oct. 23, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 21 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter, attack, ground-attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

On 23 October 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position and an ISIS ammunitions cache northwest of Ramadi using precision guided munitions.

On Friday 23 October, the crew of a Reaper remotely piloted aircraft identified an ISIL armoured personnel carrier, concealed under a large building. Despite the difficulty this target posed, the crew were able to position to destroy the vehicle with a Hellfire missile.

The Reaper then supported another coalition aircraft in a successful strike on a second terrorist vehicle which had been identified nearby.

On Oct. 22, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted one strike using remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 15 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, fighter, and bomber aircraft against ISIL targets.

Their courage, skill, and sacrifice narrowly prevented yet another brutal massacre by Daesh murderers. It is important to realize that U.S. military support to this Iraqi rescue operation is part of our overarching counter-terrorism efforts throughout the region and does not represent a change in our policy. U.S. forces are not in Iraq on a combat mission and do not have boots on the ground.

• Near Ramadi, seven strikes struck three separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL mortar position, seven ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL improvised explosive device cluster, four ISIL vehicles, two ISIL tactical vehicles, an ISIL supply pile, two ISIL boats, and breached two ISIL obstacles and denied ISIL access to terrain.

• Near Sinjar, one strike destroyed 11 ISIL fighting positions.

• Near Tal Afar, three strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL vehicles, 49 ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL cache, and wounded an ISIL fighter.

Coalition aircraft struck elements of the Qayyarah Oil Refinery in Iraq just after midnight Oct. 16 local time, as part of the Coalition’s effort to disrupt Daesh, the Arabic acronym for ISIL, financing from illegally-gained oil revenue. This strike was conducted in coordination with and in support of the Government of Iraq.

The Qayyarah Oil Refinery was used by Daesh to produce oil for the black market to fund their terrorist activities. This site was also used to store weapons and as a base of operations to facilitate attacks in the area.

“The Coalition recognizes that a significant portion of Daesh’s financing results from illicit oil revenues,” said Col. Christopher Garver, Public Affairs Officer for CJTF-OIR. “This airstrike is aimed at reducing Daesh’s ability to fund their terrorist activities with oil stolen from the people of Iraq. It also demonstrates the Coalition’s commitment to attack Daesh across all aspects in order to dismantle and ultimately defeat Daesh.”

Coalition forces use deliberate targeting and precision airstrikes to disrupt Daesh’s ability to generate revenue through illicit oil smuggling.

Coalition airstrikes will continue to target Daesh’s leadership, revenue sources, supply routes, command facilities, and weapons caches to dismantle their operations in Iraq and Syria.

On Oct. 14, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes using remotely piloted and fighter aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, attack, ground-attack, remotely piloted aircraft, and rocket artillery against ISIL targets. The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

Syria

• Near Al Bab, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL vehicles, an ISIL tactical vehicle, and damaged an ISIL excavator.

• Near Al Hawl, two strikes destroyed an ISIL crude oil collection point and an ISIL oil pump.

• Near Ar Raqqah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle.

• Near Manbij, one strike destroyed an ISIL artillery piece.

• Near Tal Jibbin , one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

• Near Washiyah, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL tactical vehicle, and an ISIL artillery piece.

Iraq

• Near Al Baghdadi, three strikes destroyed an ISIL weapons cache and denied ISIL access to tactical terrain.

• Near Al Huwayjah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

• Near Bayji, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL home-made explosives cache.

• Near Habbaniyah, one strike destroyed an ISIL tactical vehicle.

• Near Hit, one strike destroyed an ISIL excavator.

• Near Kisik, one strike destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

• Near Ramadi, four strikes struck three separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL heavy machine gun position, an ISIL mortar position, an ISIL fighting position, and two ISIL tactical vehicles.

• Near Sinjar, four strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed 21 ISIL fighting positions and five ISIL staging areas.
