Step News Agency, Jisrtv and Syriapost1 reported that one person died and five were wounded after a rocket was fired from a Russian warship toward Bdama, Idlib.

According to the Shaam News Network, “Russian warships targeted at night the town of Bdama in the countryside Western Jisr al shoughour in the  Idlib countryside with a long-range ballistic missile targeted the center of town, leaving dead and several wounded.”

Activists said a long-range missile landed in a nearby agricultural land near some civilian homes Bdama town center, “causing the fall of one dead and eight wounded”.

Syrian Press Center reported that “artillery and missiles” shelled Bdama, but there were no reports of casualties.

Airwars assessment

Up to 16 civilians, including several women and children, were killed and dozens more injured in airstrikes on Khasham village in Deir Ezzor governorate. However, it was not clear who was responsible with allegations lodged against the Coalition, the Russian air force and the Syrian government.

In total, five sources alleged that the Coalition was responsible, four sources said Bashar al Assad’s government was to blame, three said Russia was responsible and six sources did not reach a final conclusion apportioning blame.

A number of reliable sources – including Smart News Agency, Euphrates Post, Radio al Kul and Baladi News – reported that phosphorous munitions were used in the attack, likely to be a contributing factor to the high casualty rates.

Several sources also reported that after the initial strike, the aircraft returned and struck a house where civilians had taken cover during the original attack.

Several victims were identified by name, but many others who were killed remained unidentified, sources reported.

DeirEzzor24 reported that of the wounded, several were critically ill and suffered from amputations, burns and maiming.

Radio al Kul reported similar injuries and said the death toll was likely to rise with 15 of 50 or more injured in a life-threatening condition.

Multiple local sources reported that a minimum of four people were killed in an air raid in al Tabani. One report from Smart totalled the number of victims at seven. The majority of sources asserted that the strikes were carried out by Russian forces, or as reported by Step news agency, ‘#russian-owned’ aircraft.

According to an article on Syrianpc News the airstrike targeted “a car carrying four civilians” resulting in ‘killing them and injuring others’. The civilians travelling in the vehicle in Al-Manjam near al Tabani, were described by a number of sources as ‘displaced people’ and in a Qasioun news report as ‘mostly women and children’.

Statements from activists in a Smart news report allege ‘seven civilians, including children, were killed by a military aircraft raid, targeting a car in the town’, though they did not specify the actors in this attack.

The incident was first reported on August 4, 2017 at 12:40 am by @NewsJorf.

Reports of the incident mention the attack on a car near Al-Munjem area (منطقة المنجم), or ‘the mining area’, in the town of Al Talbani (التبني), western Deir Ezzor governorate. Research confirmed that there is a salt mine in Al Tabani, however we were unable to locate it. Another source mentions the car was travelling between the towns of Al Tabani and Maadan. Airwars assessment

Thirteen civilians reportedly died, including seven children and five women, following an attack on Abu Kamal, Deir Ezzor. Local sources were conflicted as to who was to blame, with some attributing blame to the US-led Coalition, while others blamed Russia.

At present, the culpable party remains unclear. The majority of sources alleged or suspected that Russia was responsible. However, the US-led Coalition received one allegation. Moreover, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported: it was not known whether the warplanes that targeted Abu Kamal city belong to the Coalition or the Russians. In addition, Euphrates Post’s initial assessment referred to explosive barrel bombs, and so the Regime also cannot be ruled out as a suspect.

13 Victims were listed by Euphrates Post as well as a family member by the name of Ja’far Al Rawa.

Baladi placed the death toll lower than most saying that “Eight civilians, including children and women from one family, were killed on Wednesday by coalition shelling targeting their home near Omar Mosque in the town of Abu Kamal, east of Deir al-Zour.” The source added that the aircraft targeted the city in a number of raids; centred on the vicinity of Aisha hospital and near the Mosque of Al-Hadi and Omar Mosque in Abu Kamal.

Al Jazeera said that one girl remained trapped under the rubble, with other reports suggesting many others were wounded, some in a critical condition.

Following on from the deadly chloride attack on Saraqeb on August 2nd, Tal al Sultan village was also reportedly hit on the same day by alleged Russian and Assad regime warplanes. According to Syria Direct, these raids were part of the same wave of attacks which blanketed Idlib as part of a revenge attack.

Al Jazeera reported that the attacks were Russian and were part of a series of raids which overall killed 15 civilians. According to the Shaam News Network, a woman and a child were killed by the shelling. However, it is possible these could be the same civilian casualties from the attack on Saraqeb (see previous incident). Syrian News also reported that there were some wounded. Numbers given were not specific to this event. Edlib Emc, however, specified that 10 people were injured in the raids.

A local resident tweeted “Russian aviation…more than five raids on the village of Tal al-Sultan. O Allah, peace, O Lord.”

At least one male civilian was killed and between 3 and 10 were wounded by airstrikes on the town of Saraqib, according to local media. There are however multiple reports of the death of a female child too – she was not named.

Multiple sources, including The Shaam News Network (SNN), identified both regime and Russian warplanes as responsible for the attacks.

However, others sources were split: @EdlaibEMC blamed the regime and Syrian Press Centre pointed to Russia, reporting that there were eight strikes, wounding three civilians.

Zaitonmag and the White Helmets reported that after the initial bombing of the residential neighbourhood, as the civil defence team was rescuing the wounded, they were struck with bombs, resulting in the injury of three crew members.

Radio AlKul reported that in addition to one death “dozens” more non-combatants were wounded.

Up to 20 civilians including three children died and as many as dozens more were wounded in air and artillery strikes on a convoy or vehicles or a bus carrying civilians on the al Ramousah road south of the city of Aleppo. It was unclear who was responsible for the event: many sources blamed Russia, though several others pointed to both Russia and the Syrian regime.

Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory, told AFF that it was unknown whether Russia or regime warplanes were responsible. Another source, @AKslasearNews, added that there had been “hundreds” of helicopter and warplane raids on both al Ramousah and Tareeq al-Bab within hours. The Shaam News Network attributed the event to both Russian and Assad forces, citing air and artillery strikes.

The lowest death count was given as 14 by the Syrian Network for Human Rights, who blamed Russia. Other sources put the number killed as high as 20, with Syria News Desk reporting that a “convoy” was struck.

According to Shahed-ayan, “activists reported the martyrdom of 17 people after warplanes targeted a bus carrying them on the road to al Ramousah, south of Aleppo, on Tuesday, August 16. This coincided with heavy artillery shelling by the regime.”

Halab News named 9 victims and also listed eight unknown civilians.

On August 16th 2016, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation reported that,"Tu-22M3 long-range bombers and Su-34 tactical bombers took off from the “Hamedan” airbase (the Islamic Republic of Iran) and carried out a concentrated airstrike on objects of the ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groupings in the provinces of Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor and Idlib. As a result, the strikes have eliminated 5 large ammunition depots with armament, munitions and fuel, training camps of militants near Serakab, Al-Ghab, Aleppo and Deir ez-Zor cities, 3 control centres of militants near the cities Jafra and Deir ez-Zor as well as a significant number of militants. Ammunition depots, training camps and control centres destroyed by the bombing had been used for support of militant groupings near Aleppo."
