Airwars assessment

Two consecutive air raids using cluster munition and thermobaric rockets struck the town of Orme Al Kubra near Aleppo, resulting in the deaths of between three to five persons and the injuring many others, according to local media. Russian or regime warplanes were reported to have been to blame.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported five civilian casualties, including three children. Smart News Agency reported four civilians killed as a consequence of the strike.

Multiple reports named three civilians from the same family as killed.

Several other sources also said that the regime was carrying out strikes on the area during this time.

The Violations Documention Centre said that “Syrian government and affiliated militias” were responsible for the deaths of three named civilians.

According to the Smart News Agency, “a woman and her child were killed and two other children were wounded by air strikes by warplanes believed to be  Russian on a town east of Deir al-Zour”.

Free Deir Ezzor radio reported: “The warplanes targeted the town of Al-Shuhail yesterday [Sept 28th], and the shelling focused on the house of ‘Hammoud Masifar’, resulting in the martyrdom of his wife and the wounding of two children. Another raid targeted agricultural land without causing casualties among civilians.”

Local media reported multiple deaths and injuries from two air alleged Russian airstrikes on the town of Bzeit on September 28th, according to local media.

Smart News Agency and Step News Agency reported the death of two women – a mother and her daughter – alongside five injured.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights, however, reported the death of two girls and their mother. All sources attributed the airstrike to Russian warplanes.

According to @insaan_rights, “Three people – two children (girls ) and their mother – were reported killed and others wounded in shelling of the village of Bzeit in the western countryside of Idlib today [Sept 28th].”

Up to three civilians including a woman and her husband died in an alleged Russian or Assad regime airstrike on Al-Ma’zola, loval media reported.

The Step News Agency reported the death of a woman – and blamed Russia.

However, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, “a woman and her husband killed in Syrian regime warplanes missiles fired on al Ma’zola village in Sahel al Rouj in Idlib governorate western suburbs on September 28, 2017.”

The Smart News Agency, citing activists, said that three civilians had died – and also attributed the deaths to Russia.

@MOAZALSHAMY  blamed a regime drone, putting the death toll at three and adding that “dozens” more were wounded.

A total of four civilians including a child and two women were killed in raids by warplanes as well as artillery bombardments on the town of Jadid Bkara on September 28th, according to local sources. The reporting mentioned both the regime forces and the Russian forces as responsible for the bombardments.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, “at least 4 civilians, including a child and 2 women, killed in Syrian regime warplanes missiles fired on Jadid Bakara village in Deir Ez-Zour governorate eastern suburbs on September 27, 2017.”

However, Sharqiya Voice pointed to both the regime and Russia, reporting “four civilians were killed as a result of the aerial and artillery bombardment by the Russian Air Force and the regime security forces on the town of Jadid Bkara in the eastern countryside”.

Sharqiya Voice added that the bombardments should be seen in the context of a near-total exodus of civilians at that time from neighbouring villages of Al Dahla and Al Sabha towards the desert and other rural towns.
