Airwars assessment

One civilian named as “Ammar al Hassan the son of the lawyer Abu Ammar al Aouni” was reported killed in a fresh Coalition strike on the city of Manbij.

According to the Manbij Agency for Documentation, he died when the home of of Mr. Suleiman Al Hassan was struck near al Hikma hospital.

One source claimed that other members of Mr al Hassan’s family also died.

In the second of their March 2020 civilian casualty reports, the US-led Coalition assessed reports that they were responsible for civilian harm in this strike as “non-credible”, stating that no Coalition actions were conducted in the geographical area at that time.

Airwars assessment

Five or more civilians including three women were reported killed in an alleged Coalition strike in the al Rabita street area of Manbij town, scene of fierce ground clashes between ISIL occupiers and assaulting SDF forces.

According to al Tokhar al Kabil, “members of the Karissli family have been martyred. They are Firyal Karissli and her son Osama and Osama’s wife Daniya Khalil Karissli in American coalition raids on the place where they were staying near al Rabita street and they are still under the rubble.”

Two additional civilian deaths were also reported, those of Haj Ismail al Hammash and his wife

In their May 2020 civilian casualty report, the US-led Coalition assessed reports that they were responsible for civilian harm in this strike as “non-credible”, stating that no Coalition actions were conducted in the geographical area at that time.

‘Thursday 28 July – a Reaper provided close air support to Syrian democratic forces fighting near Manbij, Tornados destroyed a mortar in northern Iraq, and Typhoons bombed a bunker in western Iraq…RAF aircraft continued to provide close air support to the Syrian democratic forces on Thursday 28 July, when a Reaper patrolled the Manbij area. The Reaper’s crew conducted four attacks with Hellfire missiles against several groups of Daesh fighters, and assisted in four further attacks by coalition fast jets.

Airwars assessment

Twelve to 14 civilians, including up to seven children and five women, were killed in air raids on the village of Dabiq in Aleppo governorate, according to local reports. It was alleged that both the Coalition and Turkey were responsible.

The Syrian Network reported “at least 8 civilians died in International Coalition warplanes missiles fired on Al Dabiq village in Aleppo governorate.” Halab Today TV, citing activists, reported that 12 civilians had been killed and others injured “following the targeting by international coalition planes.”

Sky News Arabia also reported a figure of “at least” 10 civilians, which it said were from “the same family,” and it blamed the bombardment on the international coalition – as did Hara FM which added that 23 people were injured. It described raids in residential areas that destroyed five houses, which killed “eight civilians from one family, most of them children and two from a second family” and said eight people had been transferred to Al Bab due to injuries, most of them critical.

However, the Syrian Observatory assigned blame to Turkey and put the death toll at 9 members from the same family. It said the victims were “an elderly man, 3 citizen women and 5 children” and added that others were injured and the death toll was expected to rise as some were in a “critical situation.”

Three individuals were killed in a Coalition strike, local sources reported.

Euphrates Post said that international coalition strikes killed three individuals traveling in a car “in the desert of Al Raqqa.”. It identified the victims as being from Bokros in Deir Ezzor province though did not clarify if they were civilians.

The Deir Ezzor and Raqqa Legal Network also reported the same names, and said the three men had been killed by “coalition planes.”

The Syrian Observatory reported Coalition raids in the area, but did not cite casualties.

At least nine civilians, including women and children, were reported killed and several others wounded due to an alleged Coalition strikes, according to several local sources.

Yaqein reported that the Coalition killed 21 civilians, mostly women and children and wounded ten others included 7 children. A source told Yaqein that “the bombing focused on the areas of Saada and al-Obeidi,” and destroyed four houses along with seven cars belonging to civilians.

Muntathar al Zaidi Al Harari put the number of injured at 13. News of Iraq put the death toll at 9 (all from one family), while Al Gharbia reported that 12 civilians had died and one child was identified by name.

In an emailed response to a report submitted by Airwars on this and other incidents in December 2016, Coalition officials said the event was presently assessed as ‘Not credible.

Three unnamed civilian males were reported killed in a Turkish (or less likely Coalition) action at al Bab. The Coalition later denied responsibility.

According to Step News, “Turkish planes targeted al Bab, east of Aleppo, with three raids and there are news about casualties.” VDC later reported three unidentfied male civilian deaths – though said these were a result of actions by “International Coalition forces.”
