Airwars assessment

Three civilians were reported killed and 19 others including children injured in alleged LNA artillery attack on the coastal road of Tajoura, Libya on May 6th, 2020, according to local sources.

Libya Observer reported that “Khalifa Haftar’s forces have carried out indiscriminate rocket attacks on the coastal road in Tajoura, eastern Tripoli, killing three civilians and injuring 19 others.”

The Center for Field Medicine and Support (FMSC) identified the three victims as Fouad Omar Oraibi, aged 35, Fathi Ramadan Atta’eb, aged 35 and Ibrahim Muhammad Shubar aged  25.

In addition, three children from the same family were injured. Rudeina Othman Ammar, Rayan Othman Ammar and Maria Othman Ammar.

Civilians were rushed to the Heart Hospital of the The Center for Field Medicine and Support which conducted delicate operations to few of the injured, while transferred some other critical ones to Tripoli’s Central Hospital.

Tarhuna 24 said: “Citizen Hamza Al-Barghouth was wounded by shrapnel as a result of a missile landing in Qasr Bin Gashir area, which has been under heavy bombardment for more than a week.”

Tk Yahroug Kl shy only reported heavy artillery shelling in the area but did not mention civilian harm.

Between 30 and 64 civilians were allegedly killed in a NATO airstrike on neighbourhood No 2 in Sirte.

Mustafa Al Fitouri wrote in his book, naming 46 civilians: “The seventh air strike took place in Sirte on 15th September at 7pm where the warplanes targeted a gathering of civilian vehicles inside and near it a group of youth civilians and led to killing between 30 and 58 civilians and I were able to documunate number of them.”

Tk Yahrouq Kl shy posted 58 names of which four belong to another incident.

Sirte September 15th martyrs wrote: “On that sad evening, when NATO aircraft bombed a group of young people and children from civilians of the city of Sirte in District No. 2.

The victims of that treacherous attack were 58 young men and children.”

Afrigate News put the death toll at 56.

Salah Traboulsi said 59 people had been killed.

Number 15th martyrs posted a list with 65 names on Facebook, one of them belonging to a different incident.

NATO declared having hit “1 Military Storage Facility, 2 Armed Vehicles, 1 Tank, 4 Multiple Rocket Launchers, 8 Air Missile Systems” near Sirte on that day.”

It later assessed the incident saying: “Multiple vehicles with substantial numbers of associated military personnel on the ground over an extended period.”

Sadikat al Qa’ed comment on Nour Al-Din Nasser Al Zanki Facebook post stated that a child with the woman suffered injures; however, it is unclear if he was the same child referred to hereabove.

At least 16 people, identified as Egyptian workers, were killed by Gaddafi forces on August 9, 2011 in Misrata according to Abdul Asallak’s post on YouTube and a tweet by @tounsiahourra.

Multiple sources stated that those killed were Egyptian workers who worked in a warehouse in the Kararim area of Misrata. A video posted by Abdul Asallak’s on YouTube shows more than 10 dead bodies in a pile.

In the first reported civilian harm event involving explosive weapons use in Libya since March, several outlets said that four civilians had been injured by shelling from an unknown party on the Sidi Hussein neighbourhood of Benghazi. The injured were taken for treatment at the al-Jalaa Hospital.

The hospital released the following statement: “Doctors of Al-Jalaa Hospital, Benghazi, received four injured as a result of the shelling that occurred in the Sidi Hussein area, according to the injured. Three of them received first aid and left the hospital, while the other was accommodated in one of the departments.”

Photographs from the scene showed several cars damaged by the shell. It was unclear which party or faction might have conducted what appeared to be a random attack. Libya Alahrar noted concerns about “armed militia and random shooting” in the city.

The incident occured in the evening.
