Airwars assessment

At least 15 civilians from the same family died in either Turkish or Coalition airstrikes, as the battle to seize Al Bab from ISIL continued. Up to nine other non-combatants also died.

Al Jazeera initially placed the death toll at 16 and then 24, though said the fatalities resulted from “shelling and battles in the city.” The Syrian Network blamed the Coalition for the deaths of “17 civilians, including 3 children and 5 women”, while LCCSY reported “21 martyrs in Aleppo killed in Turkish air and artillery bombardment on al Bab.”

According to Shaam News “Al A’amaq agency [ISIL] reported that Turkish aircraft and aircraft of the international coalition launched more than 20 air raid on the city’s neighborhoods, as has been targeting residential neighborhoods with more than 250 artillery shells and grenades.”

Local sources said that 27 civilians were killed, including women and children, and 63 were injured by Coalition airstrikes and artillery bombing on several neighborhoods at the right side of Mosul.

Sawif Ateka published a photograph of an unnamed little girl who it said died in shelling on the Al-Zinjili neighbourhood.

In its June casualty report, the Coalition confirmed that “During a strike on an ISIS VBIED, it was assessed that five civilians were unintentionally killed.” However the coordinates provided to Airwars – 36.324100, 43.127258 placed this event at Wadi Hajar (Arabic: وادي حجر) neighbourhood in Mosul. Given that this location is 4.6km from Rifai, and 3.3 from Zinjili, it may refer to a separate incident.

According to Smart News, five civilians died and two were injured in an alleged Coalition airstrike on Al Rasafa.

Smart reported that the warplanes – “likely” belonging to the Coalition – “bombed a bus as it passed through on the road from al Rasafa to al Mansoura (30 km west of Raqqa City), after civilians were displaced from Sokhna town northeast of Homs. This reportedly led to the death of five civilians, including women and children and serious injury of two others.”

France reports that in the last week it carried out 29 sorties and 9 strikes destroying 12 ISIL targets. In Iraq, all 8 strikes were carried out in support of operations in Mosul. They targeted mortar positions and defensive positions in the city as well as in the outskirts of Badush. In Syria, in the Raqqah region, a Rafale patrol was engaged on a ground support mission to neutralize ISIL fighters leading an attack against the SDF.]

Two civilians reportedly died and six were injured in an alleged Coalition airstrike on the Al Thani neighbourhood of Al Tabaqa.

The Smart news network reported: “A local source in al Tabaqa city (55 km west of Raqqa), said that the raids affected the second district [Al Thani neighbourhood], killing two civilians and wounding six others”. Smart blamed the Coalition.

Al Ahed also pointed towards the Coalition in a report which was fairly identical to Smarts, though it said that the news came from militant sources.

Nine civilians from one family were killed in an alleged Coalition strike at al Andalus Farms.

According to Qasioun, the strike hit a residential neighbourhoods inhabited by displaced people from Maskana. Nation Defense, which also blamed the Coalition, put the death toll as high as 18.

According to Shaam News “unidentified” warplanes targeted a farmhouse “leading to a terrible massacre against civilians displaced from the eastern countryside of Aleppo, leaving seven martyrs as a primary outcome, and many wounded.”

Nine victims from Maskana – killed by “unidentified planes” – were named by VDC.

Four civilians died and five were injured in an Coalition alleged airstrike on the Al Awwal neighbourhood of Tabaqa, according to local sources.

Raqqa_SL reported destruction of civilians’ homes as a result of Coalition strikes on the First neighbourhood. According to Step news agency, the Coalition struck a residential building, though the source said there were no reports of casualties.

However, Smart news agency said that “four civilians were killed and five others wounded in an air strike on Wednesday-Thursday night in al Tabaqa city [53 km west of Raqqa], north of Syria, according to a local source. The source said that the raids targeted al Awwal neighbourhood”. Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently published images showing destruction of civilian homes reportedly in the Al Awwal neighbourhood.

Airwars assessment

It was claimed that airstrikes targeted two sites in Baaj District, in the west of Mosul and led to several dead and wounded among individuals.

A number of sources – all using the same words – reported that the first strike took place near the gas station and the second behind the General Hospital of Ajman. They did not specify the number of casualties nor who was responsible.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
