Airwars assessment

Between two and six civilians were killed as Russian and/or Assad warplanes struck the town of Jobar, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, local media reported.

According to local reports, the incident in Jobar was one out of many that day in eastern Ghouta. In Jobar, most sources reported the death of two civilians, while Local Coordination Committees of Syria was alone in saying that six died.

DMC Press identified the name of one male fatality.

It should be noted that while all sources only mentioned airstrikes, Douman Revolution1 reported that both “two air strikes and artillery shelling” had struck the town.

Finally, it remains unclear who is to blame. Daily Sabah News identified the Syrian regime as responsible while LCCSY pointed to both “Russian and Assad raids”.

The remaining sources did not apportion blame.

Airwars assessment

Up to six civilians were killed in alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on a residential neighbourhood in Ma’arat Al Nu’man, Idlib governorate, on July 25th, 2019, according to local sources. Up to five others were reported injured.

@HalabTodayTV wrote that: “Two [civilians] were killed and others were wounded as a result of Russian airstrikes on the city of Ma’arat Al Nu’man in the southern countryside of Idlib.”

While Euphrates Post reported that a total of six civilians were killed, several other sources, including Baladi news and the Syrian Civil Defense, put the death toll at two civilians. Euphrates Post claimed that among those killed were children and women. The Syrian Civil Defence, however, reported that the two civilians who were killed were men.

@AlkhaleejOnline tweeted: “Three civilians were killed and many civilians were injured in airstrikes on the city of Ma’arat Al Nu’man in Idlib countryside this morning.” Step News Agency also put the death toll at three civilians.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights identified the victims as Abdullah Al Jedi and his son Faris after “fixed-wing warplanes we believe were Russian fired several missiles on Ma’aret al Nu’man city in Idlib governorate southern suburbs, on July 25, 2019.”

Four civilians were reported wounded by Baladi News while the Syrian Civil Defence claimed there were five civilians injured.

@barakatalyousif wrote that there had been “more than seven warplanes in the airspace of Idlib countryside and Hama countryside, reaching as far as Dana in the north.”

While most the sources blamed Russia for the strikes on Ma’arat Al Nu’man, a few others, including Euphrates Post and @Arabi21News, pointed to the Syrian regime as the responsible belligerent.

The incident occured in the morning.

Airwars assessment

Between three and six civilians died in an airstrike on the home of Mohammed al-Shabib Abu Jassim, according to local media – though sources were conflicted as to whether the US-led Coalition, the Iraqi air force, Syrian regime or Russia were to blame.

But according to 7al, Russian warplanes carried out the attack, conducting nine raids on civilian homes which killed six non-combatants and injured 18 others. Deir Ezzor24 also pointed towards Moscow, as did Baladi.

Al Bukamal’s dawn reported that shells were fired “from the Iraqi side on the agricultural lands in (Suwayeh – Harri)”. The raids struck state security building and the building of the party division. Additionally, “A Daesh car was targeted on the main al Sayyal road”.

Furthermore, they reported that “For the second day in a row, the town of Sayyal (east) was shelled [they] targeting the house of Muhammad al-Shabib – Abu Jassem. He was martyred along with two guests who have not yet been identified and others in the house were injured”
