One man was killed and a woman was injured in an alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrike on the village of Mardiekh, Idlib Governorate, on January 26th, 2020, according to local media.

The Local Coordination Committees of Syria reported: “16:02 A regime’s Sukhoi 22 warplane raid targets the outskirts of Mardikh village and resulted in the death of Ammar Mahmoud Kassih.”

Several additional sources named Mr. Kassih as having been killed in the bombing.

The Facebook page, Saraqeb Deaths, said Mr. Kassih was approximately 25 years old and lived in the “Western District, Western Ayoub Sweets, 100 meters away from Ayoub sweets.”

The Palestine News Network quoted the Syrian Civil Defense as saying: “a man was killed in the town of Mardikh as a result of the bombing of the Russian warplanes, and a woman was injured as a result of the same bombing”.

@syrian191124 listed several towns, including Mardiekh, and said they had been the “targets of warplanes, helicopters, and various types of missiles and weapons”.

The majority of sources that named a belligerent said Russia had carried out the strike.

The incident occured at 16:03:00 local time.

Civilians were injured, including one man, when Russian airstrikes targeted the Al-Iman Hospital in the village of Sarja, Idlib Governorate on January 26th, 2020, according to local media reports. The sources claim the bombing forced the closure of the hospital which served up to 50,000 civilians from the surrounding area.

Sham News quoted the Free Idlib Health Directorate as saying Russian warplanes targeted the Al-Iman Hospital in Sarjeh village in Jabal Al-Zawiya at dawn causing significant damage to the hospital’s departments and equipment, forcing it to close. The bombing reportedly injured a number of patients, no injuries were reported among the medical personnel.

@MoamenRawy said: “A person was injured as a result of targeting Al-Iman Hospital in Sarjah in Jabal Al-Zawiya in Idlib countryside, at dawn today, January 26, by Russian warplanes, which led to the hospital being completely out of service.

Several additional sources also stated that a civilian had been injured.

Anadolu Agency reported that the bombing did not result in casualties as the hospital had been evacuated of patients and staff prior to the attack.

The Baladi News correspondent in the Idlib countryside said: “On Sunday morning, Russian warplanes bombed with high-explosive missiles the “Al-Iman” hospital in the village of Sarja in the southern countryside of Idlib, which led to its complete destruction.” The source said the hospital had been the target of previous aerial bombardments that caused moderate damage and the facility had been partially taken out of service several times.

All of the sources alleged that Russia had carried out the strike.

Local Coordination Committees of Syria said the strike occurred at 4:08 am, IdlibPlus and Halab Today also said it occurred “after midnight”.

The incident occured between 12:00 am and 4:08 am local time.

SN4HR reported: “Mrs. Fteim Mahmoud a Shbib was killed along with her girl as fixed-wing warplanes we believe were Russian fired missiles on Mardikh village in the eastern suburbs of Idlib governorate, on January 27th.”

The Syrian Civil Defence (Idlib) said: “In the town of Mardikh, east of Idlib, a child and a woman were killed and another child was wounded by an airstrike by Russian warplanes”.

Shaam Network said that Russian and Syrian regime forces launched dozens of airstrikes on January 27th in the midst of artillery and missile shelling on this area and other areas of Idlib on that day.

Anastracey reported a Russian raid targeted the village of Mardikh at 10:18 am.

The Palestine News Network reported: “Russian warplanes raided residential neighborhoods in the city of Saraqib, using high-explosive missiles, killing a young civilian and wounding three others, including a girl.”

The Syrian Civil Defence (Idlib) said the strike occurred at dawn.

One young man could be seen being helped into an ambulance in a video uploaded by @media_idlib.

@media_idlib said members of the White Helmets helped the wounded and handed over the body of a young man to his family.

@aboaymankhaledk reported “massive destruction of residential buildings” as a result of Russian raids on residential neighborhoods of the city.

Five of the sources alleged that vacuum munitions were used. @MMCSYR, @mohmad_rasheed and @1qoR4CfweChkK9w said Russian aircraft delivered the munitions, @media_idlib and @Ammar_Haskur said the aircraft belonged to the Syrian airforce.

Anas Tracey said four strikes were carried out in Saraqib over the course of January 27th, 2020:

According to the Shaam News Network, “Russian and Assad air forces launched dozens of air strikes in the midst of artillery and missile shelling in the areas of clashes, cities, towns, villages, Maarat al-Numan, Sarqib, Kafrnbel, Jericho, Maarat Harima, Benin, Sarjat Maarzita, Mardikh, Hass, Ahsam, Tarnabah, Aafs, Kafr Fatekh, Shanan, Kafarma, Khan al-Sabil, Dadaekh, Marbessah, Dair Shanbut, Sirnakb. There were two martyrs in the town of Shannan, two martyrs in the town of Mordikh, and a martyr in Saraqib“.

The majority of the sources accused the Russian airforce of carrying out the strike.

Russian warplanes carried out strikes against the western outskirts of the town resulting in the injury of a civil defense volunteer, according to Warrior.netw.

The Syria Civil Defense said: “The volunteer, Muhammad Al-Khatib, from the Civil Defense Center in Al-Zorba, was wounded as a result of an airstrike targeting the town, wounding him with shrapnel while he was on his way to work.”

@AmmarAlzeer reported Mr. Al-Khatib was wounded by shrapnel.

@BawabaHalap quoted a correspondent from Aleppo Gate saying a Russian warplane bombed the town and the surrounding area in the morning with six high-explosive missiles. Members of the Syrian Civil Defense transferred Mr. Al-Khatib to a hospital at Bab al-Hawa for treatment.

@jisrtv reported that Russian planes had used “vacuum missiles” in the strike.

Shaam News said both Russian and Syrian regime planes bombed the area on that day.

Out of the source that named a belligerent all but one said Russia was responsible for the strike.

One member of the Syrian Civil Defense was killed, and two more injured, by alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on the village of Sarja, Idlib governorate between January the 27th and 28th 2020, according to local media reports. The unit of volunteers was reportedly on its way to the aftermath of another bombing when they were targeted.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights said: “Othman al Othman, a member of Civil Defense Bazabour center, from Nahla village in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate, was killed and two other members were injured as Syrian regime fixed-wing warplanes fired missiles near Civil Defense teams in Sarja village in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate, while they were heading to evacuate the injured of previous bombing by fixed-wing warplanes we believe were Russian, on January 27.”

@SyriaCivilDefe named the two injured men as Hussein Bahsik and Ahmed Badawi. The volunteers, who belonged to the Bazabour Center, were injured in the evening from a strike carried out by Syrian regime aircraft, according to the source.

Smart News quoted a civil defense source saying: “the regime’s warplanes carried out a double raid on the village, as the volunteers went to the location of the first raid to inspect the place and evacuate the wounded, and upon their arrival the planes carried out the second raid.”

In a Facebook post, the Syrian Civil Defence said the two men were injured when they were targeted by the warplane’s machine gun. The source alleged to have documented 51 airstrikes by Russian warplanes and 39 barrel bomb strikes. Of the locations named as having been targeted was the village of Sarja.

@thawrat111 said the strike resulted in the “injury of the rest of the team members” without specifying how many.

@HalabTodayTV said vacuum munitions were used in the strike.

@EyadHoms20 and @EuphratesPost reported that the incident occurred at dawn.

Shaam News posted a video showing the children and colleagues of Othman al Othman grieving during his funeral.

Step News said: “The reporter of the Step News Agency in Idlib, Hassan Al-Muhammad, said that Russian planes targeted the Sarja town of Jabal Al-Zawiya in the middle of last night with vacuum missiles, which resulted in the death of 5 civilians, including a civil defense volunteer, and the wounding of others, while civil defense teams are still searching for people trapped under the rubble of their homes.”

The Syrian Network for Human Rights said: “The brothers Abdul Baset and Muhammad Hasan Haj Musa were killed along with their father on January 27, as fixed-wing warplanes we believe were Russian fired missiles on Sarja village in Jabal al Zaweya area in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate. The victims’ bodies were pulled out from under the rubbles on January 28.”

@AhmedDekhan reported: “Brothers and colleagues Mohamed Jamil and Abdul Basit, sons of Hassan Haj Mousa. All of them became martyrs with their father today, after a Russian hate raid on the village of Sarja”

@ahmedalasi said a family was trapped under the rubble of their home for 12 hours after planes reportedly targeted those who came to assist them. Four dead civilians were pulled from the rubble and a further three were injured according to the source.

Sources either said the strikes were carried out by Russia or the combined actions of Russia and the Syrian regime. One source said the strikes were carried out by the Syrian regime alone.

The incident might be related to R4124, which took place near Sarja. The Syrian Civil Defense volunteer Step News reported as having been killed has not been included within the estimated civilian casualties for this assessment.

Airwars assessment

Two men were killed and others injured following alleged Russian or Syrian regime air or artillery strikes on the village of Shannan, Idlib governorate, on January 27th, 2020, according to local media reports.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SN4HR) reported that “Wael al Jisr and Mustafa al Deeb were killed as fixed-wing warplanes fired missiles on Shnan village in Jabal al Zaweya area in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate, on January 27th.”

Anastracey also named the two victims and said the strike occurred at 7:32 am.

An Orient reporter said the two victims had remained under the rubble because civilian and medical rescue teams were having trouble reaching the affected area due to the intensity of the bombardment.

Orient News, and several other sources, reported that additional people were injured but the sources did not provide a specific figure.

SMART Agency quoted local sources saying “two civilians were killed as a result of missile strikes by Russian warplanes on the village of Shanan in the Ariha region of the southern countryside.”

@WM_FREESYR and the Syrian Civil Defence Idlib said Syrian government forces had carried out the strikes which targeted “civilian homes in the center of the village” according to one of the sources.

The majority of the remaining sources implicated Russia in the bombing.

Shaam Network reported that Russian and Syrian regime forces used artillery and missile shelling on different areas of Idlib on that day. “Russian and Asadian air forces launched dozens of air strikes in the midst of artillery and missile shelling in the areas of clashes, cities, towns, villages, Maarat al-Numan, Sarqib, Kafrnbel, Jericho, Maarat Harima, Benin, Sarjat Maarzita, Mardikh, Hass, Ahsam, Tarnabah, Aafs, Kafr Fatekh, Shanan, Kafarma, Khan al-Sabil, Dadaekh, Marbessah, Dair Shanbut, Sirnakb, 2 martyrs In the town of Shannan
