Airwars assessment

Up to 11 civilians were killed and dozens more wounded in an airstrike on Abeen Saba’an, according to local media – though sources are conflicted as to whether this was the work of Russia or the Syrian regime.

Step News Agency, Syrian News Desk, Taha_Alhlo, and the Syrian Network for Human Rights all attributed the event to Russia.

Syrian News Desk, also blaming Russia, put the death toll at five, including two children, with five other non-combatants wounded.

Abarah Press, again pointing towards Moscow, put the death toll at 11 with dozens wounded.

However, two other sources  (Zaman Alwasl and Baladi) said that the regime was responsible, while Horrya blamed both Russia and the regime collectively.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

The victims were named as:

Abdulmajid Dibo Al-Hamza

Airwars assessment

At least five and as many as 11 civilians, including three children were killed by air raids carried out on August 10th in Maarat al Numan, local media reported. Additionally, ten to 30 other civilians were wounded from the air raids. The Shaam News Network identified the planes as being Russian warplanes. However, Alsouria and @Maaramc12 attributed the event to the Assad regime.

Sources also reported that between three and five air raids were carried out against the city of Maarat al Numan.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, “on Wednesday 10 August 2016, alleged Russian warplanes fired missiles on the outskirts of Souq al Hal in the southeastern parts of Ma’aret Al Nu’man, located in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate and is under the control of armed opposition factions. As a result, six individuals were killed including three children. Additionally, 20 others were wounded.”

Almarra provided a video that showed the fires that were caused by the air raids, including a vehicle engulfed in flames. Images by Syria.news also depicted the destruction of a marketplace. In addition, graphic images posted by @alMarraToday showed a child who was struck in the head during the air raid under the pretext that he was a terrorist.

Airwars assessment

11 civilians including five women and two children were killed and nearly 35 injured in airstrikes on Douma, according to multiple sources. While most sources allege Russia was responsible, one blamed the Assad regime.

The Shaam News Network reported that 10 non-combatants died following raids by Russian warplanes, which also caused considerable damage to residential buildings.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights did not identify the warplanes responsible but said that eight people, including one child and two women, had been confirmed dead while two others had not been identified. It added that the death toll was expected to rise due to the severity of the injuries.

Other sources including the Violations Documentation Center, the Syrian Media Organisation and the White Helmets (who put the death at 10 including two children and four women) blamed Russia. Both the Syrian Media Organisation and the White Helmets posted distressing videos showing children being dug out from the rubble.

However, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said that regime shelling killed at least seven, including one child and four women. And video blogger Yasser al Fawwal filmed victims of what he said were both Russian airstrikes and Assad regime missile strikes.

10 victims were named by the Violations Documentation Centre as well as one Unidentified  female adult.

Airwars assessment

Between five and 11 civilians were killed, including three women and five children, and 15 were wounded in airstrikes against Darat Izza city in western Aleppo. The civilians killed were all reportedly members of the same family and included a couple who had just been married a few days before.

A video published by JisirTV showed an aerial view of the city, which had many destroyed and crumbled buildings and included a clip of the moment a parachute missile struck the vicinity and detonated.

A consensus emerged among local sources that Russian warplanes were responsible for the attacks.

However, Alyementoday, blamed regime forces for the airstrikes, while the Syrian Network for Human Rights – who put the death toll at 11 “from the same family” blamed “government warplanes (allies)”.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Between four and eleven civilians – six reportedly from the same family – were killed in an aerial bombardment which struck a residential neighbourhood in Al Atarib, Aleppo, local media reported. Dozens were also said to have been wounded in the strikes.

Two men, two women and five named children were reported as killed by the Violations Documentation Center, despite most other reports being as low as five.

Most sources blamed Russia for the alleged airstrikes, however ,some also pointed to the Syrian regime. One source alleged that both belligerents were to blame.

According to Tribearab, the bombs struck a shelter for displaced people. It was additionally reported by another source that it was a residential area.

A video published by Civil Defence Centre, shows many wounded civilians being dragged from the rubble. Defence workers are seen to be digging through the rubble for injured civilians or survivors. Towards the end of the footage, a dead child is pulled from the rubble with chunks of its body missing.

Must be noted the two children from the Zgeer family are also mentioned in RS1793, an airstrike on Al A’kola al Sharqiya, Aleppo. It is unclear where they died.
