Airwars assessment

One child died in an airstrike on Hakim hospital, a specialist children’s hospital in Aleppo – and reportedly the last remaining in the city. Sources alleged the hospital was targeted or struck twice in 12 hours. But it was not clear who was responsible, with sources pointing to both Russia and the Syrian regime.

A video by Smart News network blamed Russia and the regime. It reported: “Al-Dakkak surgical hospital in Aleppo came out of work after being targeted three times by warplanes and helicopters belonging to  Russia and the regime, causing the death of one person and wounding a number of medical staff. Dr Abu Ismail said, ‘This is the  the most important hospital in liberated areas of Aleppo, and one of six hospitals that were targeted yesterday – in addition to the blood bank which was targeted almost three times.’ The Director of Health in Aleppo, Dr Abdul Basit Shyoukh, said that on Sunday, four hospitals were put out of service along with the Central Blood Bank, due to aerial bombing by regime and Russian aircraft on the Shia’ar neighborhood in the city”.

In a subsequent report by Smart, Dr Abdul Basit Shyoukh added that ” Al-Hakim Hospital is the only remaining hospital in the city”.

The report added that “a newborn child was killed in al-Hakim hospital due to the strike”. Alsouria – also blaming both Russia and the regime – said that the child was just two days old.

AMC named the victim and reported that he died “due to the dust and rubble when the hospital was targeted with aerial bombardment”.

According to Step, the victim died in a second strike on the hospital, saying that “he died while on the breathing assisting device he was put on after the first airstrike. He choked to death due to the dust and rubble.”

The local time of the incident is unknown.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

One child died and 15 other civilians – many reportedly also children – were wounded in a civilian casualty incident in Talbisah, according to local media – though it was unclear whether the casualties were caused by Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes or Syrian regime artillery.

Al Jazeera and Gulfeyes blamed Russia. According to Syria News Desk, “Russian warplanes used cluster bombs last night on neighbourhoods in the city of Talbiseh. This led to the death of a child killed and injury of 15 other people”.

But some other sources pointed towards the Syrian regime. Qasioun, Alsory-Alhor and Syriafree339 reported that the regime was carrying out heavy artillery strikes.

Syriamubashar put the death toll at two, while multiple sources said that many children were wounded in the incident.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

At least one civilian was killed and a number of others were injured following airstrikes on Majawdeh, roughly 85km southeast of Deir Ezzor. However responsibility was contested.

The victim was identified by a number of sources, which also reported that his wife and daughter were injured.

The Syrian Human Rights Committee reported that the wife of Hadlan had also died, but it was the only source out of many to do so.

Two of the ten sources reporting the incident alleged that the Coalition was “likely” responsible whereas one source, the Syrian Network for Human Rights, alleged that the Syrian government was behind the attack and published images of cluster munitions which it claimed were used. The remaining sources said that the warplanes were unidentified or did not make any reference as to who was responsible within their reports.

The victims were named as:

However, munition shown in two photos published on social media likely shows AO-2.5RTM / AO-2.5RT cluster munition, suggesting this was an attack by the Syrian Arab Air Force or the Russian Air Force.

Airwars assessment

Six members of the Lafi family were among up to 11 civilians reported killed in air raids on the city of Mayadin, according to local media – though reports were conflicted as to whether the Coalition, the Assad regime or even Russia were responsible.

Although Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that four civilians from one family were killed, five civilians from the same family were identified. Other sources such as Jisir TV and Shaam News claimed six civilians from the same family were killed.

A Facebook post by Step News Agency holds the US-led Coalition responsible for the attack, however, multiple other sources did not identify the culprit.

Activists for Smart News described an “unidentified aircraft” that targeted a neighbourhood of Mayadeen under the control of the so-called Islamic State Organisation. The Smart report also noted that details of the incident were limited, due to the security measures on the internet, imposed by the so-called Islamic State Organisation.

According to Shaam News Network, “several civilians houses” were targeted, and local sources said that civilians were wounded but did not give a figure on how many. Some of the wounded were trapped under rubble, according to local reports.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights blamed the regime for the deaths of members of the Al-Lafi family.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, however, it was unclear whether the warplanes responsible for the strike belonged to the Coalition or Russia.

@MOAZALSHAMY and @1thayir put the death toll as high as 11 and blamed “intensive military raids”.

In April 2019 the Coalition announced that it had classed this allegation of civilian harm as non-credible, noting: “After review of all available strike records it was determined that more likely than not civilian casualties did not occur as a result of a Coalition strike.”

The incident occured around dawn.

Airwars assessment

Between three and six civilians died in an airstrike on the home of Mohammed al-Shabib Abu Jassim, according to local media – though sources were conflicted as to whether the US-led Coalition, the Iraqi air force, Syrian regime or Russia were to blame.

Al Bukamal’s dawn reported that shells were fired “from the Iraqi side on the agricultural lands in (Suwayeh – Harri)”. The raids struck state security building and the building of the party division. Additionally, “A Daesh car was targeted on the main al Sayyal road”.

Furthermore, they reported that “For the second day in a row, the town of Sayyal (east) was shelled [they] targeting the house of Muhammad al-Shabib – Abu Jassem. He was martyred along with two guests who have not yet been identified and others in the house were injured”
