Airwars assessment

A civilian family of five was killed in alleged Coalition airstrikes in Kasrat Sheikh Juma’a village in Raqqa.

Habib al Mustapha al-Abdullah, his wife and their three daughters were the victims of the strikes, according to a number of local sources. The family’s son Zakaria Habib al Abed Lillah also reported the deaths via Facebook, posting pictures of his mother and father.

Six of the eight sources alleged that the Coalition was responsible for the deaths.

In its monthly civilian casualty assessment for September 2019 – published on November 15th – the alliance classed the event as ‘non credible’, asserting that “After a review of all available records it was determined that, more likely than not, civilian casualties did not occur as a result of a Coalition action.”

Coalition officials confirmed to Airwars that their review was a match for this event, and provided coordinates for the area assessed to within 100 metres.

On the 15/6-17, the French MoD reported: "In the past week, France reports his 31 sorties, 28 of which were Armed Reconnaissance or Ground Support (CAS) and 3 were intelligence gathering. Airwars assessment

Colonel Talal Najm al-Hamdani, from the Directorate of Civil Defense of Nineveh, said that about 200 bodies had been recovered over a 48 hour period in different parts of West Mosul.

In an interview with Al Araby al Jadeeda, Colonerl al-Hamdani estimated that as many as 4,000 bodies remained under the rubble of West Mosul as a result of recent fighting. Of the 200 bodies recovered by volunteers, some had lain there for up to three months he believed, and were now skeletons.

One local assistance group accused the government of orchestrating a coverup of the deaths.

A local Facebook page reported that Professor Ghanem Ismail Ahmed (Abu Nashwan) was killed by unspecified bombing in a house in which he had taken refuge, in Saaha neighbourhood in Old Mosul. He was a former head of the al-Thawra school, and of the Imam al-Satt Nafisa Mosque.

Airwars assessment

One child died and several members of his family were injured in an airstrike on Al Lattoum village, according to local media – though sources were conflicted as to whether this was the work of the US-led Coalition (against which there was just one allegation), Russia or the Syrian regime.

Alsoukhnaalhadath reported the death of a male child, as a result of the “targeting of the house of his sister in Lattoum by the international criminal coalition. His sister was moderately injured in the leg and was taken to the hospital.”

However, other sources blamed Russia. According to Palmyra Media Centre, “several members” of the child’s family were also wounded in the alleged Russian strike.
Insaan Rights Watch blamed the regime, while the Syrian Network for Human Rights pointed to “Syrian-Russian Alliance forces”.

In their June 2020 civilian casualty report, the US-led Coalition assessed reports that they were responsible for civilian harm in this strike as “non-credible”, stating that no Coalition actions were conducted in the geographical area at that time.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
