Nine Daesh terrorists killed in southern Syria

SOUTHWEST ASIA – Coalition partner forces near At Tanf Garrison, Syria killed nine Daesh fighters and destroyed several Daesh vehicles Nov. 16.

The Maghaweir al Thowra, a fighting force native to southern Syria, engaged and defeated an attempted terrorist attack in the de-confliction zone near At Tanf. MaT has been fighting Daesh and maintaining security of a 55-km radius de-confliction zone at the tri-border area of Iraq, Syria and Jordan since 2015.

Da’esh terrorists in vehicles with blacked-out headlights penetrated Syrian regime lines into the de-confliction zone. Coalition and partner forces ordered the vehicles to halt, upon which Daesh terrorists dismounted and began firing. Coalition and MaT partners returned fire, killing 9 Daesh members and destroying several vehicles.

Throughout the event, Coalition officials and their Russian counterparts used the de-confliction telephone line to ensure forces on the ground did not belong to Russia or the Syrian Regime.

“Though Daesh has lost over 95% of the land it once claimed as part of its so-called physical “caliphate,” this exchange of fires in southern Syria is evidence the terrorist organization still poses a threat to the people of southern Syria,” said Special Operations Joint Task Force Director of Operations, Col. Owen Ray. “This skirmish also underscores the Coalition’s commitment to remain in the region until Daesh is defeated.”

The MaT’s actions demonstrate Syrians taking control of their territory following a brutal Daesh occupation. The Coalition – working by, with and through partner forces – remains committed to the enduring defeat of Daesh, and to preventing its re-emergence as a terrorist force.

Thursday 16 November – a Reaper bombed a group of terrorists firing on Syrian Democratic Forces in eastern Syria…

With Daesh having suffered major defeats in both Iraq and Syria, Royal Air Force missions continue daily, focused on armed reconnaissance to identify remaining terrorist locations and support, as necessary, clearance operations on the ground by Iraqi troops and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The SDF have continued their operations against extremists south-east of Al Mayadin, in eastern Syria, and an RAF Reaper provided close air support to them on Thursday 16 November. The first terrorist threat that the Reaper’s crew identified was a vehicle being driven at very high speed towards the SDF positions. Fearing this to be a probable truck-bomb, the Reaper’s crew tracked the lorry, ready to engage. However, no intervention was necessary, as the driver lost control of the vehicle, which crashed off the road and promptly exploded; it had indeed been a truck-bomb. The Reaper subsequently spotted a group of terrorists opening fire on the SDF; a GBU-12 guided bomb quickly eliminated this threat.

France announce major redeployment for the Wagram Task Force: For more than a month, the Iraqi Security Forces and the Coalition have concentrated their forces on western Iraq, not far from the Iraqi-Syrian border. The various components of the Task Force (TF) Wagram, now under tactical command of the US Marines TF Lion, have successively redeployed to be able to support the Iraqi Security Forces in the Battle of Al-Qaim.
