On Jan. 24, Coalition military forces conducted 28 strikes consisting of 74 engagements against ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 21 strikes consisting of 39 engagements using attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

Syria

* Near Ar Raqqah, 20 strikes engaged 11 ISIL tactical units and destroyed 16 oil pump jacks, six oil storage tanks, six fighting positions, four tactical vehicles, two watercraft, a bunker, a VBIED, and a VBIED factory.

* Near Manbij, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit, destroyed three fighting positions, and suppressed an ISIL tactical unit.



The Iraqi Security Forces are leading the Coalition’s fight to rid Iraq of ISIL. They are willing to take the brunt of the fighting to liberate their country and do not seek or desire the Coalition’s participation in direct ground combat operations. The Government of Iraq welcomes the Coalition because we are assisting them with our unique capabilities, at their request.

Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted seven strikes consisting of 35 engagements coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack, fighter, remotely piloted, and rotary aircraft as well as artillery against ISIL targets.



Iraq

* Near Al Qaim, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a vehicle.

* Near Mosul, five strikes [1 British] engaged four ISIL tactical units; destroyed four mortar systems, two vehicles, two weapons caches, an ISIL headquarters, an anti-air artillery system, a fighting position, a supply cache, a tunnel entrance, a VBIED, a VBIED facility, an ISIL guard post, an ISIL-held building, and an IED factory; damaged a supply route; and suppressed an ISIL mortar team.

* Near Tuz, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a fighting position and an artillery system.

Tuesday 24 January – A Tornado and Typhoon mission destroyed a car-bomb south-west of Mosul…Following their victory in eastern Mosul, Iraqi forces have begun preparations for the liberation of the western half of the city. Coalition aircraft conducted strikes on Tuesday 24 January against Daesh targets along the approaches to these districts. The RAF contribution was a combined formation of Tornado and Typhoon aircraft, supported by a Voyager tanker. The jets dealt with a car-bomb that had been identified to the south-west of the city. A direct hit from a Brimstone destroyed the booby-trapped vehicle.

On Jan. 23, Coalition military forces conducted 19 strikes consisting of 54 engagements against ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 12 strikes consisting of 16 engagements using attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft as well as rocket artillery against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted seven strikes consisting of 38 engagements coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter, remotely piloted, and rotary aircraft as well as rocket artillery against ISIL targets.

Syria

. Near Abu Kamal, one strike destroyed an oil well head.

. Near Al Bab, two strikes engaged two ISIL tactical units and destroyed a vehicle, two mortar systems, and an ammunition cache.

. Near Al Shadaddi, one strike destroyed an ISIL front-end loader.

. Near Ar Raqqah, five strikes engaged two ISIL tactical units and destroyed a UAV tower, an ISIL decoy tank, and an IED factory.

. Near Dayr Az Zawr, two strikes destroyed two oil trucks, two oil pump jacks and two vehicles.

. Near Palmyra, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit.

Iraq

. Near Kisik, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit; destroyed a vehicle, a supply cache, a fighting position; and damaged a tunnel.

. Near Mosul, five strikes engaged four ISIL tactical units, a mortar cache, an IED storage facility, an ammunition storage facility, two tactical vehicles, a fighting position, two mortars, a tow truck, 14 watercraft, three barges, two tanker trucks, two front-end loaders, and eight vehicles; suppressed a mortar team; and damaged a supply route, a crane and a tractor.

. Near Rawah, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit; destroyed a recoilless rifle, a mortar system, a vehicle; and damaged a bunker.

Monday 23 January – Tornados destroyed a command post, tunnel and a vehicle in northern Iraq…On Monday 23 January, Tornados, supported by a Voyager air-refuelling tanker, attacked a Daesh command post near the town of Mullah Abdullah, west of Kirkuk. A Brimstone missile and a Paveway IV guided bomb were used simultaneously. The Brimstone destroyed a truck parked outside, with the Paveway impacting shortly afterwards to demolish the building and collapse an associated tunnel.

On Jan. 22, Coalition military forces conducted 42 strikes consisting of 71 engagements against ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 34 strikes consisting of 49 engagements using attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted eight strikes consisting of 22 engagements coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.



Syria

* Near Abu Kamal, one strike destroyed an oil well head.

* Near Al Bab, five strikes engaged four ISIL tactical units and destroyed three tactical vehicles, a mortar, and an ISIL-held building.

* Near Ar Raqqah, 14 strikes engaged four ISIL tactical units and destroyed four artillery pieces, a decoy artillery piece, a UAV tower, two tactical vehicles, a command and control node, 20 oil storage barrels, two tunnels, and a decoy armored vehicle.

* Near Dayr Az Zawr, 14 strikes destroyed 21 oil pump jacks, an oil tanker truck, an oil storage tank, two oil storage barrels.

Iraq

* Near Kisik, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit, destroyed a logistics node, and damaged a tunnel.

* Near Mosul, four strikes engaged an ISIL tactical unit; destroyed two VBIEDs, a fuel truck, a vehicle, a front-end loader, 10 boats, nine oil tanker trucks, three tanker trailers; and damaged a guard tower and a supply route.

* Near Tal Afar, two strikes engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL VBIEDs and an explosives factory.

* Near Tuz, one strike destroyed an ISIL bulldozer.

On Jan. 21, Coalition military forces conducted 31 strikes consisting of 55 engagements against ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 25 strikes consisting of 39 engagements using attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted six strikes consisting of 16 engagements coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

Syria

* Near Al Bab, two strikes engaged an ISIL tactical unit, destroyed an artillery piece, and damaged a tactical vehicle.

* Near Ar Raqqah, 22 strikes engaged 12 ISIL tactical units; destroyed nine fighting positions, two tunnels, two tanks, an IED factory, and an ISIL headquarters; and suppressed three ISIL tactical units.

* Near Dayr Az Zawr, one strike destroyed two oil well heads.

Iraq

* Near Ar Rutbah, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a tactical vehicle, two weapons caches, and a mortar.

* Near Bayji, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a vehicle.

* Near Kisik, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a vehicle and an ISIL-held building.

* Near Mosul, two strikes engaged two ISIL tactical units; destroyed a VBIED factory, a VBIED, a tank, three fighting positions, and a vehicle; and suppressed an ISIL tactical unit.

* Near Tal Afar, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a semi-truck and a command and control node.

On Jan. 20, Coalition military forces conducted 26 strikes consisting of 49 engagements against ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 22 strikes consisting of 28 engagements using attack, bomber and fighter aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of 21 engagements coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter and rotary aircraft against ISIL targets.

Syria

* Near Abu Kamal, two strikes destroyed two oil well heads.

* Near Ar Raqqah, 16 strikes engaged six ISIL tactical units; destroyed six fighting positions, two supply caches, an oil well head, and a mortar system; damaged two supply routes; and suppressed five ISIL tactical units.

* Near At Tanf, one strike destroyed two fighting positions.

* Near Dayr Az Zawr, three strikes destroyed two oil refinement stills, an oil well head and an oil storage tank.

Iraq

* Near Kirkuk, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL-held building and a supply cache.

* Near Kisik, one strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and damaged two vehicles.

* Near Mosul, two strikes engaged an ISIL tactical unit; destroyed 29 watercraft, three fighting positions, two vehicles, a mortar system, a light machine gun, and an anti-air artillery system; and damaged eight supply routes.

The Coalition struck 90 watercraft and three barges on the Tigris River in Mosul Jan. 18 – 20. Many of these watercraft were being used to ferry ISIL fighters and equipment across the Tigris River from East to West Mosul in an attempt to escape the Iraqi Security Forces as they continued to clear the remaining portions of East Mosul.

Iraqi Security Forces secured the Eastern bank of all five bridges across the Tigris River in Mosul during the past week of clearing operations making it difficult for ISIL fighters to flee the Iraqi Security Forces.

“We believe this was a desperate attempt to retrograde ISIL fighters now that the Iraqi Security Forces own the Eastern bank of every bridge in Mosul,” said Col. John L. “JD” Dorrian, CJTF-OIR Spokesman. “This is one more example of how the Coalition is supporting the military defeat of ISIL by launching air strikes while Iraqi military complete the clearance of Eastern Mosul.”

Since the operation to liberate Mosul began on Oct. 17, 2016, the Coalition has destroyed at least 112 watercraft on the Tigris River in Mosul, with several more damaged or destroyed outside of the city.
