SITUATION MILITAIRE DU THÉÂTRE

L’opération Chammal, volet français de l’Opération Inherent Resolve, se poursuit en dépit des évènements dans le Nord Est syrien. Les armées restent résolument engagées dans leur lutte contre l’organisation terroriste Daech.

Les avions français poursuivent leurs missions de vol sur la zone d’opération Chammal (les Rafale et l’Atlantique 2 ont réalisé 18 sorties aériennes la semaine dernière). Surtout, le volet conseil et formation des forces de sécurité irakiennes se poursuit grâce à l’action des Task Force Monsabert et Narvik à Bagdad. Cet appui contribue à la lutte contre Daech et participe à la sécurisation de l’Irak.

400e mission pour l’Atlantique 2 au Levant

Début octobre, l’avion de patrouille maritime Atlantique 2 a réalisé sa 400ème mission depuis la base aérienne projetée au Levant, dans le cadre de l’opération Chammal. Cet aéronef a également franchi le cap des 3000 heures de vol effectuées sur ce même théâtre.

L’Atlantique 2, détourné de sa mission originelle de lutte anti sous-marine pour l’opération Chammal, a fait l’objet d’adaptations pour répondre aux besoins opérationnels. Il dispose de postes d’observations dédiés, de capteurs imagerie performants et de systèmes électroniques de pointe qui permettent de recueillir du renseignement ciblé et nécessaire à la conduite des opérations.

Sa soute modulaire s’est aussi adaptée aux besoins de ce théâtre, en pouvant désormais embarquer plusieurs bombes guidées laser. Son équipage a la capacité de neutraliser un ennemi quelques minutes après sa détection initiale, après validation par la chaine de commandement, lorsque la situation l’exige.

Réactif, l’Atlantique 2 est en permanence connecté avec les plus hautes autorités grâce à sa liaison satellitaire et peut ainsi répondre à des besoins de renseignement en temps réel.

Cet anniversaire est l’occasion de rappeler le panel des missions de cet aéronef qui contribue régulièrement à l’opération de la coalition Inherent Resolve, dans laquelle il joue un rôle essentiel en constituant des dossiers images, réalisant des interceptions électromagnétiques et conduisant des frappes, en autonome ou en coopération avec d’autres appareils de la coalition (aviation de chasse ou drone).
