Airwars assessment

According to local media, up to four civilians, including one woman, were killed and dozens left wounded, as Russian or Assad forces carried out air and artillery shelling of Latamna, Hama.

Step News Agency reported how allegedly “Russian raids and rocket-propelled grenades” had struck the city of Latamna, resulting in great civilian harm.

The death toll spanned from one to four. The lowest reported by, for example, HalabTodayTV, while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported four civilians fatalities.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SN4HR), who reported two deaths caused by Assad-waged artillery, one of the victims was a woman.

While some reports merely reported about “several” wounded, Smart News Agency reported that dozens were left injured.

Though the majority of sources, including al-Jazeera and Smart News Agency, identified Russia as responsible, the incident remains contested as MasarPressNet and SN4HR blamed the Syrian regime.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Up to 13 civilians, including at least one child and one woman, were killed and several left wounded as Douma, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, continued to be subject to heavy air and artillery shelling, local media reported, though the apportion of blame was not clear.

While several parts of eastern Ghouta was subject to heavy shelling on Friday, February 23rd, resulting in large numbers of civilian fatalities, activists told al-Jazeera that “the largest number of casualties was in the city of Douma.”

Zaman al-Wasl reported how Douma’s residential neighborhoods had been struck by  “two air strikes and shelling of rocket launchers.”

Moreover, Enab Baladi, who blamed the Syrian regime, reported that the city also had been struck by a cluster bomb.

The death toll spanned from five, as reported by Step News Agency to as many as 13, reported by Enab Baladi, Zaman al-Wasl and LCCSY.

Step News Agency added that one woman was among the fatalities while a photo published by al-Jazeera revealed at least one child fatality.

Without providing exact figures, reports mentioned that “a number of civilians” were left wounded.

As few sources apportioned blame, it remained unclear who was responsible. Some pointed to the Assad regime, Damaski Agency to Russia and LCCSY to both parties.

Finally, Al-Yaman al-Hur blamed “the crimes of Assad, Iran, and Russia.”

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Two civilians were killed along with a number of wounded as Russian airstrikes and/or Assad artillery shelling struck Al Shifonya, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, local media reported.

Several sources reported that two civilians were killed in the incident, and both were identified by name by Ghouta Media Center. It was however, not clear whether the victims were adults or children.

Additionally, several civilians were reported wounded by the shelling.

However, sources were unclear as to whether the civilians were killed by an air raid or artillery shelling and whether Russia or the Syrian regime was to blame.

While LCCSY, for example, blamed Russian waged airstrikes, Orient News also said an airstrike had caused the two fatalities, however while blaming the Assad regime. Finally, without identifying a culprit, GMC said that “heavy artillery” had claimed the two civilians lives.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Up to five civilians were killed and several left wounded as Kafar Batna, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, was subject to Russian and/or Assad-waged air and artillery shelling, local media reported.

As the shelling of eastern Ghouta continued on its fifth day, Baladi News reported how a total of 22 civilians had been killed in Kafar Batna the past 72 hours.

While most reported the launch of aerial missiles, al-Etihad Press added that the town had also been struck with artillery.

The death toll spanned from one to five, according to local reports. Most reported the death of one named civilian man, Mu’adh Rahma, who was the brother of a well-known Maamoun Rahma, preacher of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

Step News Agency and the Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that at least five civilians were killed in the strikes, while HalabTodayTV, added that several also were left wounded.

Sources were not clear in terms of culpability, as blame was appointed to either the Syrian regime, Russia, or both across the reports.

Airwars assessment

Between three and five civilians, including at least one child, were killed and several left wounded by Russian and/or Assad waged warplanes striking in Arbeen, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, local media reported.

Without specifying how many were killed on February 22nd alone, Qasioun News and al-Youm reported that between ten and 13 civilians, including five children, were killed in the last 24 hours in Arbeen.

Qasioun blamed both “heavy air, missile and artillery bombardment,” adding that more than 100 also were left wounded during the past day’s shelling.

Specifically reporting from Arbeen on Thursday, February 22nd, other media outlets reported between three and five civilian fatalities. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SN4HR) reported “at least” three fatalities, including one girl, while Damaski Agency and Step News Agency reported five victims.

Damaski Agency also reported the launch of explosive barrels while Damascus Media Center tweeted that clutser bombs had been used.

The majority of sources, including Step News Agency and SN4HR, identified joint Russia/Assad forces as responsible, while Damaski Agency was the only source who only blamed Russia.

Airwars assessment

As the aerial and artillery shelling of eastern Ghouta continued on its third day, up to 17 people, including at least four children and two women, were killed and several were wounded as the town of Hazza was struck by Russian and/or Syrian regime forces, local media reported.

What Zaman al-Wasl, described as “a fierce military campaign” continued in eastern Ghouta, including Hazza, and contained both artillery shelling and missile attacks, especially striking residential areas.

In Hazza, the initial reports put the death toll between seven and nine, which according to Ghouta Media Center (GMC) included children and women from the same family. The source, who blamed Russian air raids, reported “the death of a whole family of eight people, including four children and two women.”

However, on the following day, February 22nd, GMC itself amended the death toll to 17, noting that additional bodies had been found under the rubble.

According to reports, the strikes had also caused injuries among the civilians who were trapped in the rubble, though no exact figures were provided.

Several reports mentioned that the city had been struck by explosive barrels launched from helicopters. For example, HalabToday TV reported how “the Medical Mercy Center is out of service by shelling the explosive barrel on the town of Haza.”

Sources were not clear in terms of culpability, as blame was appointed to either the Syrian regime, Russia, or both across the reports. However, in one report GMC blamed Russian airstrikes while in another, it blamed Syrian regime helicopters for launching explosive barrels, thus indicating engagements from both belligerents.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

At least two, but up to five, civilians were killed and several were wounded as Jisreen, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, was subject to aerial and artillery shelling, carried out by the Syrian regime, Russia or both, as reported by local media.

Zaman al-Wasl reported how several towns of eastern Ghouta, including Jisreen, were being struck by both airstrikes and artillery shelling for the third day in a row, mainly striking residential neighbourhoods.

In Jisreen, the death toll spanned from two to five, the highest reported by only one source, Step News Agency.

While no reports mentioned the exact number of wounded, Step News Agency reported that the shelling of eastern Ghouta, including Jisreen, overall wounded dozens.

Moreover, several reports, such as Ghouta Media Center (GMC), reported that a field hospital in Jisreen went out of service after being struck by “Russian air raids and explosive barrels delivered by helicopter flying over the region.”

However, it was unclear among the reports where to apportion blame. Some blamed the Syrian regime while GMC, as seen above, pointed to Russia, and finally, the Syrian Network for Human Rights identified both belligerents as responsible.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Up to six civilians, including one child, were killed along with five wounded as Hamouriya, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, for the third day in row was subject to Assad and/or Russian air and artillery shelling, local media reported.

According to al-Jazeera’s correspondent, who blamed both Russian and Assad forces, the shelling of eastern Ghouta on February 21st included both explosive drums and rockets while adding that Hamouriya was among the cities with the highest concentration of strikes. Step News Agency reported that both warplanes and helicopter gunships stroke eastern Ghouta towns, including Hamouriya.

While most reports put the death toll at one, Step News reported five fatalities while the Syrian Network for Human Rights reported the highest number of victims, namely “at least six”, including one child.

The Twitter account Omariorphan identified one male victim by name, adding that he besides from being a humanitarian volunteer, also worked at Rawdat Bara’im al-Omari kindergarten in eastern Ghouta.

While some sources referred to “several” wounded, HalabTodayTV said that at least five civilians were left injured.
