Airwars assessment

Aerial and artillery shelling of Kafr Batna, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, wounded two civilians, one woman and one child, local media reported.

According to multiple sources, at least one woman and one child were wounded in what Jsirtv described as “heavy air bombardment hit residential neighbourhoods in Kafr Batna.” Reportedly, the strikes hit a popular market, as noted by Abu Alhuda.

Several sources mentioned both aerial and artillery shelling. Shaam News Network, for example, reported  “heavy air raids accompanied by the shelling with rockets and heavy artillery shells”.

Only a few sources apportioned blame, and those who did were conflicting. Both HalabTodayTV and Masar Press Net pointed to the Syrian regime, while LCCSY indicated that Russia was responsible.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Assad or Russian-waged shelling of Arbeen, eastern Ghouta Damascus, both from the ground and air, killed at least one child and one woman, and wounded several others, local media reported.

Damascus Media Center reported that 15 airstrikes and five ground-to-ground missiles had struck Arbeen since the morning, targeting residential neighbourhoods. Orient News also reported the use of the same type of surface-to-ground missiles.

Several reports mentioned that the shelling had caused civilian harm. Local Coordination Committees of Syria reported that shelling hit a range of towns in eastern Ghouta, including Arbeen, resulting in “martyrs and wounded”.

Specifically, one child was reported killed by the Civil Defence. Additionally, a tweet  Om Gazy mentioned the death of an unidentified mother.

Several civilians were reportedly left wounded, including the two children of the deceased mother, as reported by Om Gazy.

While the majority of sources identified the Assad regime as the responsible, the incident remains contested, as Local Coordination Committees of Syria (LCCSY) attributed blame to Russia.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Local media reported that between two and five civilians were killed and six were wounded as alleged Russian and Syrian regime warplanes launched airstrikes and artillery in the suburb of Harasta in eastern Ghouta, Damascus.

Syrianoor reported that several cities in eastern Ghouta were subject to aerial shelling on February 8th, causing the “death and injury of dozens” and “extensive destruction of infrastructure and property,” including Harasta.

While most sources reported that two civilians were killed, Sham Syria put the death toll at five.

Six civilians were reported wounded according to several reports.

Also, Step News Agency and Sham Syria indicated that the city had been struck by both airstrikes and artillery.

Only a few sources identified the responsible, but those who did, al-Araby and LCCSY, identified both the Syrian regime and Russia as the culprits.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

According to local media, three civilians were wounded as Russian and/or the Syrian regime carried out aerial and artillery strikes in Lataminah, Hama.

A civil defence member told Smart News Agency that what he believed was Russian warplanes had launched four air raids while the Assad regime had launched 40 artillery and missile shells.

Both Smart News Agency and Al Latamna Youth Group reported that the incident had wounded three civilians, while other sources mentioned the material damage that strikes had caused.

Sources were, however, unclear in terms of culpability. While Smart News, as noted above, pointed to a shared responsibility between Assad and Russia, others pointed only to Assad, namely Masar Press Net and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, while Step News and Waseem only attributed blame to Russia.

Across the reports, several mentioned that the town had been subject to both aerial and artillery shelling.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

At least six and as many as 12 civilians, including one woman, were killed and up to 30 were wounded as Marat Al Numan, Idlib, was subject to heavy aerial bombardment, possibly including the use of cluster bombs, allegedly carried out by either Russia or the Syrian regime, local media reported.

In this widely-reported incident, Marat Al Numan was subject to heavy aerial shelling in the al Sharqi neighbourhood as reported by Syrian Network for Human Rights (SN4HR), and the city was in large parts left completely destroyed and buildings were set on fire. The rescuing team worked hard in the following hours to extinguish the fire and rescue civilians from under the rubble.

Step News Agency reported that a whole family was stuck under the rubble, and generally, reports mentioned “dozens” of wounded, with the highest was reported by Al Latamna Youth Group who said that around 30 were left wounded.

Reports spanned from six fatalities as reported by Step News Agency to 12 as reported by Syrians for Truth and Justice (STJ). Several sources mentioned that one woman was among the fatalities. Nine male victims were identified by name.

An activist on the ground told Baladi News that “a squadron of Russian air force aircraft targeted the western neighbourhood and the southern neighbourhood of the city with more than 14 high-impact missile attacks.” Several sources echoed that around 14 missiles had been launched.

For example, STJ reported that residential neighbourhoods were hit with high-explosive missiles and vacuum missiles, which was confirmed by Mohammed al-Dahir on the ground, director of the Maara Media Center. al-Dahir added that the shelling began around 6.40 pm Wednesday night, February 7th.

Baladi News additionally reported that Marat Al Numan had, besides from aerial shelling, also been struck by cluster bombs launched from, what they said to be Russian warships in the Mediterranean Sea. Multiple sources mentioned the use of cluster bombs, including Step News Agency and Mara Today.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the headquarters of the Free Syrian Army in Idlib had also been struck by two Ballistic missiles, leading to the death of three of its fighters. Smart News Agency also reported the death of three Free Syrian Army fighters.  However, the media said they were killed as they “were marching their cars in the city where they were bombed”, and instead of that, a four-storey building was struck in the eastern part of the city.

SOHR later amended its reporting, saying that six fighters had been killed.

Finally, the large majority of reports, including SN4HR, Edlib Media Center and Step News Agency, identified Russia as responsible. However, the incident remains contested as SOHR pointed to the Syrian regime and Mara Today and STJ attributed blame to both Russia and the Syrian regime.

The incident occured at approximately 6:40 pm local time.

Airwars assessment

One civilian, allegedly a child, was killed by an Assad or Russian waged assault in the town of Harasta, eastern Ghouta, Damascus, local media reported.

According to local reports, the incident in Harasta was one out of many that day in eastern Ghouta. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), this was the “most bloody day in Syria in the latest few weeks” referring to the bombardments of eastern Ghouta.

Multiple sources mentioned that one civilian was killed, who, according to SOHR, was a child.

The Damascus Media Center published images of how smoke from the airstrikes rose from, what they reported, were residential buildings.

While most sources reported about aerial shelling, Masrawy News reported that in addition to the airstrikes, 15 surface-to-surface missiles had also been launched in several towns, including Harasta.

Almost all sources, including Masrawy News and SOHR, attributed blame to the Syrian regime. However, Russian culpability cannot be excluded as LCCSY pointed to both “Russian and Assad raids”.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
