Airwars assessment

Between five and seven civilians from one family were killed, including three women and three children, following airstrikes on Abo Shahri. Sources all blamed Russian warplanes for the raids, except the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, who blamed Russian and Syrian regime shelling. There were no reports of any injured civilians.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, “seven civilians from the same family, including three children and three women [were] killed by suspected Russian warplanes missiles fired near car driving civilians in Abo Shari village in Raqqa governorate eastern suburbs, August 19.”

Shahed_Alep however tweeted that “five civilian [were] martyred” and others were wounded “as a result of Russian aircraft targeting their vehicle on the road in the countryside of eastern Raqqa.”

Syrian Human Rights Committee named two civilians, but said that they were killed on the 14th. Airwars assesses this is likely incorrect as there were no strikes reported on the vicinity on the 14th, and the two civilians were from the same family, so likelihood is they were killed on the 19th.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Up to seven civilians including two women and a girl died in an airstrike on a school sheltering displaced people in Mazloum village, eastern Deir Ezzor, according to local media. Though local sources were conflicted as to whether the Coalition, Russia or the Syrian regime were to blame, the village did appear to have been the target of a regime offensive.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights attributed the event to the Coalition, putting the death toll at at least seven with more injured – many, it said, in a serious condition. According to Deir Ezzor News, which didn’t identify the culprit, “Seven people died and a number more were wounded as a result of the bombing of a school that housed displaced persons in Mazloum village in the eastern suburb of Deir Al-Azur.

The shelling targeted a school sheltering displaced people from the village of Al-Maraiya, killing seven civilians, including a girl and two women, and wounding several others. The number of martyrs is likely to increase due to the large number of wounded, and a significant shortage of medicines and medical services in the village, and there is a state of inability to treat a number of injuries”.

However, the majority of sources – Syria Press Center, SMO, Marsad al Hassaka and Euphrates Post – blamed Russia. According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, however, the regime carried out the attack. It put the death toll at six including a girl and two women.

Other sources added that dozens more civilians were injured in the event – though some did not identify the warplanes responsible.

Four days after the event, Euphrates Post noted “The movement of displaced people from the towns of Mazloum, Mrat and Khaisham Tahtani as a result of artillery shelling by the regime forces located in the town of Al-Marayya.

There were more than 50 raids fired onto the vicinity.

Airwars assessment

In renewed artillery shelling on Khan Sheikhoun, up to seven civilians died, and between six and 15 were wounded, according to local media. Sources were conflicted regarding who was to blame – though the majority pointed to the regime.

Sources reported that the Syrian regime were stationed at Kubaybat al-Huda camp in the eastern suburb of Idlib, which is where they reportedly fired the artillery from. Reports said that the bombardment consisted of high explosive missiles which caused huge material damage. Additionally, Smart News reported that “Russian forces [struck] from their positions in the village of Qubaybat al-Huda”.

Khaled Bin al Walid Mosque was “targeted” in the shelling, causing partial damage to the building. Additionally, “missiles targeted the residential neighbourhoods of the city of # Khan_Shikhun”. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights added that an area near an automated bakery was also shelled.

The highest numbers of casulties reported was “seven martyrs… in Khan Sheikhan, including two children and two women”.

The civil defence reportedly worked tirelessly to dig victims out of the rubble.

Airwars assessment

Between four and seven civilians were reportedly killed in alleged Russian or Turkish airstrikes on Al Bab.

Hara FM accused Russia of the attack: “Four people dead and three wounded from one family from Russian bombing of the village Qasr al-Bureij southeast of the city of Al Bab.”

The Syrian Network for Human Rights also blamed Russia and added that two children and a woman were among the victims.

Halab Today TV published two reports, saying the death toll was either five or seven, including four children wounded. It did not clearly blame any belligerent for the incident. As Turkey repeatedly shelled Al Bab during this period of time, Turkish involvement does not seem unlikely.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Up to seven civilians, including four children and one woman, were killed while as many as dozens were wounded, local media reported, following Russian or Assad-waged airstrikes in Madyara village, aastern Ghouta, Damascus.

While the death toll spanned from five to seven, most reported six civilian fatalities.

For example, The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported: “Six civilians (four children and their parents) killed as Syrian- Russian alliance warplanes fired missiles on Madyara village in Eastern Ghouta east of Damascus suburbs governorate on November 19 2017.”

Several sources tweeted the names of six victims from the same family, including Violations Documentation Center for Syria (VDC).

The Step News Agency put the death toll at seven, adding that “dozens” more were wounded.

Enabbaladi reported on regime strikes in Eastern Ghouta: “According to statistics published by Al-Gawta Media Center on Saturday (November 18th), 14 children and eight women were killed after the aerial bombardment of the eastern towns and villages of Ghouta.”

Sources were, however, conflicting in terms of culpability, as blame was attributed to both Russia and the Syrian regime across the reports.

Up to seven civilians died in either an alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrike on Al Salheen, local media reported.

Smart News Agency  Shahba Press and AMC news all blamed Russia. Al Jazeera pointed to bot Russia and the Assad regime carrying out strikes in three neighbourhoods including Al Salheen, Fardous and Hanano.
