Airwars assessment

A 17-year-old child was killed in alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on the village of Kafr Ta’al, Idlib governorate, on February 11th, 2020, according to local sources.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that “the child Qasem Lattouf al Omar, aged 17, was killed as Syrian regime fixed-wing warplanes carried out a strike using machine guns in Kafr Ta’al village in the western suburbs of Aleppo governorate, on February 11.”

Civil Defense informed the Anadolu Agency that one civilian was confirmed dead from an air strike in Kafr Taal. No other information was released about whether others had been wounded.

The air strikes were reported by local sources to be part of a larger strategy to drive civilians out of towns and villages. SMART News Agency blamed both Russian forces and the Syrian regime for the incident while @so_ria98 attributed airstrikes to Russia.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

The victims were named as:

The Syrian Civil Defence also indicated great damage to civilian homes and property.

More than 15 sources attributed the airstrike to the Russian Armed Forces, with @oulaalassaad and RTTR2019 claiming that Russia used vacuum missiles during the strike.

Airwars assessment

Local sources reported that one man was killed and up to two others injured as a result of alleged Russian airstrikes on the city of Binnish in the Idlib province, on March 2nd 2020.

Alleged Russian warplanes carried out two raids on the city of Binnish. The strikes resulted in the death of one civilian Rami Haj Hamden, and injured two more. Initial sources claimed one man was killed and one man injured but Step news reported 3 civilians were impacted by the strike.

Multiple photographic sources show extensive property damage, including that of a local hospital.

SNHR reported: “fixed- wing warplanes we believe were Russian fired missiles near the hospital of Islamic Medical Complex in Binnesh city in the northern suburbs of Idlib suburbs, killing Rami Haj Hamdan and partially damaging its building and equipment.”

SNHR later reported that a Syrian Civil Defense vehicle was damaged “while they were heading to a site of a previous bombing by Syrian- Russian alliance forces on the outskirts of the city, severely damaging an ambulance of Civil Defense”. This indicates that there was a second “double strike” that only resulted in material damage, corresponding with the Civil Defense’s own reporting on the incident and the resulting damage.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Three children were killed in alleged Russian or regime airstrikes on the town of Kafar Ta’al, Aleppo governorate, on January 20th, 2020, according to local sources. Seven civilians, including children, were reportedly wounded.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the killing of three young girls. The Syrian Network for Human Rights wrote that the girls were part of the same family: “Sibling girls Noura and Yusra Mehyou Al Masri and the girl Fatimah Qaddour Al Masri, aged 6, 10 and 6 respectively, were killed as fixed-wing warplanes we believe were Russian fired missiles on Kafr Ta’al village in the western suburbs of Aleppo governorate, on January 20″. According to the Syrian Civil Defence, the residential home of the children was targeted.

Edlib Media Center, Smart News Agency and @ShahbaPress reported seven wounded civilians. Shehab Agency asserted the injury of seven wounded and injured civilians, alleging that most of the civilians injured were children. Sources stated that the incident occured around dawn.

The Syrian Civil Defence Aleppo published a statement announcing that their teams were on site to rescue the injured civilians and to recover the three al Masri girls killed during the attack.

All sources, except the Syrian Coalition twitter account, stated that the attack was carried out by the Russian Armed forces. The Syrian Coalition tweeted: “At least 7 martyrs and more than 10 injuries, so far, among civilians, as a result of the terrorism of the Russian occupation and the Assad regime with their aerial and artillery bombardment on the western countryside of Aleppo”

Shaam News Network wrote that “civilians were killed and others wounded today, Monday, by Russian airstrikes, targeting the towns of the western countryside of Aleppo, in the context of an escalation campaign that has affected the area for nearly a week, amid a large movement of displacement from the area.”

Three children were killed alongside two adults in alleged Russian airstrikes on a farm housing displaced people near Saraqib, Idlib governorate, on January 23rd, 2020, according to local sources. Up to fifteen people, including children and women, were injured.

According to Step News Agency correspondent Hassan Al Muhammed, “the Russian aviation inflicted a massacre on the displaced people on a farm they were taking refuge in, near the city of Saraqib, east of Idlib. This resulted in the death of 5 people and the injury of 10 others from the same family, including children and women.”

Local sources tweeted that the following civilians were killed: Fatima Izz Al Din (50), Musab Khatoun (26), Murhaf Musab Khatoun (1), Basil Khatoun (1), Radwan Khatoun, (11).

Muhammed Al Ali, an activist, told Jeron that the Russian aircraft conducted several airstrikes, killing five civilians and wounded another five, including two children. He noted that the family fled their village of Al Hamra in the eastern countryside of Hama two years earlier after the regime took control over the village.

SMART reported that there were three children and one woman among the wounded. A correspondent for Baladi News reported that “Russian warplanes targeted a farm located about five km away from the city of Saraqib, sheltering IDPs from the countryside of Idlib, with rockets, killing five of them and wounding 15 others with varying injuries.”

Although most sources reported that the airstrike targeted a farm or a “house on farmland”, Edlib Media Center gave conflicting reports. EMC first stated the attack hit a petrol station in which the displaced family had sought refuge, but wrote in a later report that the family had been residing in tents.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

On January 25th 2020 at 13:02, up to five civilians, including a woman and two children, were reported killed and six others wounded following Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes carried out against the village of Shannan. Two non-civilians were also reportedly killed.

Local reports were inconsistent concerning the number of victims, as numbers initially stated three women and two children killed, while others cited two children, two men, and one woman killed. Smart News reported the death of four civilians, a woman, her two children, and a male, and this was also reported by Civil Defense. The majority of sources that reported on the incident mentioned three civilians being killed and two non civilians killed, which makes it likely that the men killed were the non civilians.

Al-Jisr reported a total of two dead civilians, while Syrian television noted the death of a woman and her two children, and this was supported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The identities of the woman and her children were listed as Mona Suleiman Fatallah (wife of Muhammad al-Taha), a two-month-old baby Wjad Muhammad Al-Taha and her sister, Thana Muhammad al-Taha. The identity of the reported fourth and possibly fifth civilian was not released.

The Syrian Civil Defense said the mother and her children were killed when their house was shelled and completely destroyed. The report stated that the “Regime’s warplanes bombed the homes of civilians in the village of Shanan, causing the death of a woman and two children and the injury of a child, a woman and a man. Teams worked to rescue the family, whose house was completely destroyed by the shelling.”

Shaam Network said that one of the dead children was an infant/baby.

Baladi News noted that Shannan was solely a residential area and a house was destroyed, killing a woman and her two children.

@ShahbaPress blamed the Russians for the incident, while Syrian Civil Defense, Ariha Today, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Syrian Network for Human Rights blamed the Syrian regime. The Step Agency said that both Russia and the regime were responsible.

Baladi News reported that the strike was carried out by pro-Assad forces using SU-22 warplanes and SNHR fixed wing Russian planes. @so_ria98 tweeted that vacuum missiles were used in the attack.

The incident occured between 1:02 pm and 1:05 pm local time.
