Airwars assessment

Five civilians died in an airstrike on Daranj, according to local media, though it was unclear who was responsible, with sources blaming the Coalition, the Syrian regime and one pointing towards Russia. A number of other sources didn’t apportion blame.

Euphrates Post and Deir Ezzor named five victims as killed by unidentified “warplanes”:

Rami Assaf, reportedly a lawyer, alleged that the Coalition carried out the strike, killing the above victims.

Al Jazeera, Al Araby, the Smart News Agency and Zamanalwasl also blamed the Coalition, putting the death toll at four, as did the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, who said that dozens more were injured.

However, the RFS Media Office pointed toward Russia.

While the Coalition has publicly reported no strikes on Syria that day, the SDF took control of the town shortly afterwards. The Syrian Network for Human Rights, however, attributed the event to the regime.

On March 10, 2022 in the CJTF-OIR Civilian Casualty Report, the Coalition reported this incident to be “non-credible”, stating that “After review of all available evidence it was determined that more likely than not civilian casualties did not occur as a result of a Coalition strike.”

Airwars assessment

Between two and five civilians were killed in an air raid on the district of Bustan al Basha, Aleppo, according to local media. While the majority of sources attributed the event to Russia, there were also reports that the regime had been active over the neighbourhood on this day.

Syria News Desk reported that “at least five civilians were killed in Bustan al Basha [when] Russian warplanes targeted more than 50 areas under the control of the opposition in Aleppo and its countryside areas.”

A tweet from Syria News Time at 06:13 put the death toll at two civilians. However, a later tweet, at 12:28 from Shahba Press, said that the death toll had risen to five.

HNN listed five unidentified civilians as killed “following Russian enemy raids”.

However, @aleppo_on_line said that explosive barrels – a weapon known to be used by the regime – had been dropped on the neighbourhood, while @AksAlsear pointed to both “Assad and Putin’s planes”.

It is currently unknown how many were injured in the raid.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Five civilians, including two children and one woman, were killed along with “dozens” wounded as Douma in eastern Ghouta, Damascus, was subject to alleged Assad or Russian-waged aerial and artillery shelling, local media reported.

The shelling, which  hit densely populated residential areas, reportedly caused much civilian harm and damage. Orient News’ correspondent reported how both heavy air and artillery shelling had killed five civilians, starting fires and destroying homes and other properties.

Several sources mentioned the death of five civilians. Jsirtv, Shaam News Network and @SCDrifdimashq added that two children and one woman were among the fatalities. All five fatalities were identified by name by @SCDrifdimashq.

Tawfiq_Suhaib, who counted around 15 air-to-ground missiles, said that “dozens” of civilians were left wounded.

Shaam News Network noted both air and artillery shelling and added that the so-called “Phil” surface-to-ground missiles were launched. According to Yasser Doumani, the shelling had taken place during the night.

Only a few sources identified the responsible, and those who did were conflicted. Orient News pointed to the Syrian regime while Local Coordination Committees of Syria blamed Russia.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Two to six civilians were reported killed, and four to five injured, in airstrikes on Jozef, Idlib, on June 23rd.

Smart news alleged that the “aerial bombardment” killed four civilians, and wounded “four others from the same family”, while stating that “two of its members are still missing and trapped under the rubble.” Meanwhile, the same source stated that “activist Ahmad al-Khatib said two civilians were killed and four others, including two women and one child, were injured as a result of three raids.”

As understanding of the events unfolded Macro Media Centre reported “five martyrs, including three children, a woman and a man” as a result of the attack. Both Shaam News and Edlib Media Center reported the death of two children out of those killed.

A later source, @abuhuzaifa_, reported the death of a young girl who had been injured in the bombardment. According to this source, “Rima Muhammad Qaddour, a young girl displaced from the town of Khan Shaykhun, was killed after several days, following shelling in Jozef in countryside of Idlib.”

However, @akhbar raised the death toll tweeting “A woman, a child, and four other civilians are the toll from air strikes launched by the Syrian regime’s warplanes in the town of Joseph in the Idlib countryside.”

While seven sources attributed the attack to the Syrian regime, five did not positively attribute blame. Meanwhile both Shaam News and Smart News named both Russian forces and the Syrian regime in reporting the incident.

Smart News stated that “the forces of the regime and Russia have launched a massive aerial bombardment of Idlib, Hama and northern Latakia for weeks, killing hundreds of civilians and displacing hundreds of thousands.”

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Four or five civilians died in an air or artillery on Marja, according to local sources – though reports were conflicted as to whether Russia was responsible or the Syrian regime.

The Shaam News Network, reported on alleged Russian raids with warplanes and helicopters across Aleppo and its surrounding countryside. It said that this coincided with “violent artillery shelling“, killing four civilians in the Marja neighbourhood.

According to Orient news, “Russian warplanes launched raids on Shikh Khudur, Ameriya, Hulluk, Salheen, Al-Marjeh and Masaken Hanano killing 22 civilians and injuring dozens more.”

However, Baladi reported the four died when regime helicopters dropped a barrel bomb.

Zaman also blamed explosive barrels from helicopters, but didn’t identify who dropped them. It put the death toll at five with others injured.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Five civilians died in an airstrike on Bustan al Qasr, according to local media – though sources were conflicted as to whether Russia or the Syrian regime were to blame.

The Shaam News Network reported that “Russian enemy planes continued targeting the neighbourhoods of the besieged city of Aleppo with dozens of raids every day, targeting field hospitals and civilians’ homes, leading to dozens of injured and dead including women and children – including five martyrs in Bustan al Qasr.”

However, according to the Syrian Press Center, “regime helicopters threw explosive barrels in Bustan and Qaser and killed 5 people and wounded dozens.”

The local time of the incident is unknown.
