Airwars assessment

According to local reports, between one and seven civilians were killed in airstrikes on the Busta al Basha neighbourhood of Aleppo. While the majority of sources attributed the event to Russia, many didn’t apportion blame.

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) said that “explosive drums pounded the neighbourhood” – a weapon used by the regime; moreover, the Shaam News Network reported that both Russia and the regime had carried out strikes in Aleppo and its countryside on this day.

HNN named one of the victims and said six others couldn’t be identified. SHRC also reported seven people dead.

Most other sources claim one person died in the attack and others were wounded such as LCCSY: “One dead and some wounded were reported as Russian warplanes carried out a missile attack on Bustan al Basha neighborhood.”

Syria 2011 also named a second victim.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

Between five and seven civilians died and up to 40 were wounded in airstrikes in the Al Karab neighbourhood of Al Atareb outside Aleppo, according to local media. While most sources blamed Russia, there was also an allegation against the Syrian regime.

LCCSY wrote that “the correspondent counted five civilians were killed when Russian warplanes carried out thermobaric weapon attacks on Al Atareb city.”

However, the Syrian Network for Human Rights blamed “government warplanes and its allies”, meaning that the regime may have carried out the strikes; while the Shaam News Network referred generally to strikes by both Russia and the regime on Aleppo (including Al Atareb) on this day.

All4Syria said that the market of the city had been bombed with cluster bombs and missiles.

Alaraby also reported the use of cluster bombs: “Al Atarib City and the town of Mansura were struck by a Russian cluster and phosphorous bombs.”

According to All4Syria, more than 40 civilians were wounded in this event.

An unidentified woman and one more unidentified person were also alleged killed in the attacks.

Airwars assessment

Between eight and 18 civilians  – six or seven of whom were reportedly from the same family – were killed in airstrikes in the Tareeq al Bab neighbourhood of Aleppo, according to local media. While the majority of sources attributed the event to Russia, both the Shaam news Network and LCCSY, referred to “Russian and Assad warplanes” carrying out strikes in Aleppo on this date, including on Tareeq al Bab, meaning that regime involvement can’t definitively be ruled out. Additionally, a large number of sources didn’t name the culprit.

Zamanmasdr reported the lowest number of people killed: “four martyrs in the neighborhood Tareeq al Bab.”

Most sources including the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SN4HR), The Shaam News Network and LCCSY, however, reported the number of casualties around seven and nine.

According to SN4HR, the seven killed included five children and one woman. In a later report it gave some more details on the location, stating that on “Saturday 24 September 2016 at dawn, fixed-wing warplanes, we believe are Russian, fired missiles that targeted residential buildings on the road leading to Al Qaterji neighborhood from Tareaq Al Bab neighborhood”.

HNN reported names and professions of those killed, LCCSY tweeted the same information.

Shahba Press also reported that a nurse and his wife and children were killed, adding that the strike hit “one of the most important water pumping lines”.

Smart News provided the highest number with 18 people reportedly killed in the strike.

Almadenah reported the use of phosphorus bombs.

Airwars assessment

According to local reports between three and 19 people including two children and one woman were killed in airstrikes on the Al Ferdos neighbourhood of Aleppo. Up to dozens more were reported wounded. While most sources blamed Russia, the involvement of the Syrian regime can’t be ruled out, as according to the Shaam News Network, “Russian and Assad enemy planes continue their intense air strikes on the city of Aleppo and its countryside using all kinds of clonic weapons and phosphorous and cluster spatial and explosive barrels” – including on Al Ferdos.

Zamanmasdar was among several sources that gave the lowest death count of three.

But Syrians News, Syria2011, the Shaam News Network, Qasioun and Al Buraq said that as many as 19 people died – though these sources didn’t all name the culprit.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights added that a woman was killed in the attack: “At least four people including a woman died due to alleged Russian warplanes firing missiles on Al Ferdos neighbourhood in Aleppo city.” In a subsequent report, it added that two children also died – and raised the death count to “eight, at least”.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Between seven and 25 civilians were reportedly killed and up to 75 more injured in airstrikes on the Bustan Al Qasr neighbourhood in Aleppo, according to local media – though it was unclear whether Russia or the Syrian regime were responsible.

The majority of sources attributed the event to Russia.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported: “The massacre toll rose to at least 13 victims after alleged Russian warplanes fired on Bustan Al Qasr neighbourhood in Aleppo city, September 24, 2016.” But in another tweet, SN4HR blamed the regime for the attack.

Most sources agreed with the number of 13 people killed, while others gave figures slightly below or above.

For example, Annahar News said 25 people were killed in the airstrikes.

Aleqt News and LCCSY gave the lowest estimate with seven people killed.

HNN and other sources mentioned that cluster bombs were used by the Russians in the raids.

But a number of sources, including Al Jazeera, Alkhaleejonline and Alsouria blamed both Russian and Syria aircraft.

AleppoAMC reported “nearly 70 wounded” in the attacks.

All4Syria claimed “heavy shelling with phosphorus incendiary bombs, leading to houses burning down.”

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Between six and eight civilians including five children and one woman were reportedly killed in an airstrike in the Al Mashhad neighbourhood in Aleppo. Sources were conflicted as to whether Russia or the Syrian regime were responsible.

Most sources seven civilians died in the attack.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights elaborated on the location of the attack in its report: “Russian fixed-wing warplanes fired missiles that targeted the residential buildings in the vicinity of the Hamza mosque in the Al Mashhad neighborhood, located in Aleppo city and under the control of armed opposition factions, which resulted in the killing of seven individuals; most of whom were from the same family, including five children and one woman.”

However, in a separate post, the Syrian Network for Human Rights blamed “government warplanes and its allies”, meaning that regime involvement can’t be definitively ruled out.

Additionally, @SRG_Syria,@jisirtv and @RFS_NORTH, reported the use of explosive barrels by helicopters, a weapon used by the regime.

According to Syriamubasher, several people were injured in the strike.

Airwars assessment

Between two and 19 civilians were killed in an aerial bombardment on the Aleppo neighbourhood of al Ferdos, multiple sources reported – though reports were conflicted as to whether Russia or the Assad regime was to blame.

Photographs from various sources appeared to show five casualties.

Sources were unclear on the number of casualties, though reports tended to agree that among the casualties were one or two children, one woman, and one man. The Syrian Network for Human Rights put the death toll at three, including one female child and one woman.

Erem News posted photographs of White Helmets digging bodies out of rubble. The photographs showed adult bodies covered in dust, making it difficult to distinguish the number of dead.

A photograph tweeted by @salqin showed an older man holding a young man’s dead body. This photograph was also tweeted by @TRtalarabiya, with a caption that said, “The number of victims today in Aleppo rose to 93 after a baby and an old man were killed in the neighbourhood of Al Fardous raid by a Russian cluster bomb.”

The Syrian Network for Human Rights posted a photograph of Mostafa Hamdan’s dead body. Two other Twitter accounts, @aboalhodaalhoms and @AleppoAMC, tweeted a second photograph of Mostafa, which appeared to have been taken shortly after the first.

An account called @IranArabSpring tweeted more photographs of the neighbourhood shortly after the attacks. In the photos, at least three civilian deaths can be seen: there is a mangled body, a small child (not Mostafa Hamdan), the body of an adult man, and a body wrapped in a rug.

Other sources mentioned higher numbers: AleppoAMC said nine were killed and “dozens” wounded in the attack, while Qasioun News claimed at least 19 deaths.

A YouTube video posted by AleppoAMC showed one body, which appeared to be an adult male, being pulled out of the rubble. Elmwatin News claimed three deaths and “scores” wounded, but noted the casualty numbers could rise as more bodies were pulled out of the rubble.

All4Syria and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that helicopters (belonging to the regime) were involved in the Aleppo strikes for that day, meaning that Assad’s involvement in this event can’t be ruled out.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

The victims were named as:
