Airwars assessment

One child was killed and another child was injured in alleged Russian or regime airstrikes on Sarja the morning of September 12th 2019, according to local sources.

According to @SyriaCivilDefe, “A child was killed and another child was injured, as a result of targeting the outskirts of Sarjah village in Idlib countryside this morning.”

In a tweet posted by @abuhuzaifa_, “the child Israa was martyred when she was returning from her school” along with an image of notebooks covered in blood identified as hers.

A tweet from @Obadaalshamii added that “Israa Al-Mousa, 17, was killed in an air strike by the criminal Syrian regime’s warplanes targeting a student gathering near a school in the village of Sarjah in the Idlib countryside.”

A male child was also identified as being wounded by @anasanas84 and his name was given: Mustafa Hussein Al-Masraw, 13 years old.

Some other sources identify “a woman” as being killed but this may be due to the girl killed being nearly 18 years old.

Most sources identified the regime as being responsible. However, some identified a SU24 warplane as carrying out the strikes, which is a plane used by the regime and Russia. Tweets from @zendenhasan and @syrian191124 also identified Russia and the regime as carrying out airstrikes to break the ceasefire but didn’t specify which carried out the airstrike on Sarja.

According to various sources, these strikes came 13 days after a ceasefire.

The incident occured in the morning.

The victims were named as:

17 years old female killed
13 years old male injured
