The White Helmets and Radio Al Kul blamed Russia, while VDC and the Syrian Free Army said the attack was the work of Assad.

Up to seven civilians including an 85-year old man were reported killed in an alleged Russian airstrike on Sheikh Najjar.

SDU Syria said that “Russian warplanes have launched air strikes targeting residential neighborhoods in Sheikh Najjar City, which resulted in the deaths of five martyrs and dozens wounded.” The Syrian Observatory put the death toll at seven.

Up to seven civilians died in either an alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrike on Al Salheen, local media reported.

Smart News Agency  Shahba Press and AMC news all blamed Russia. Al Jazeera pointed to bot Russia and the Assad regime carrying out strikes in three neighbourhoods including Al Salheen, Fardous and Hanano.

Alamawi, however, blames the Assad regime for the airstrike, as does HMN News.

Step News reported that there was shelling in Fardous in tandem with those in Al Salheen. Further to this, Zaman Alwasl News said that there were 15 raids launched in the local area.

According to Alamawi, six people were killed in the airstrike which hit the residential area.  The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights was among other sources that put the death toll at three.

Smart News Agency are the only source to claim that seven people were wounded in the airstrike.

Syrian Press Center add those injured were in a “critical condition”.

According to local media, six or seven civilians were killed and several more wounded by warplanes in al Tabani, Deir Ezzor. Sources were conflicted as to the responsible party, with most agreeing the planes were Russian.

Most sources claimed six dead. For instance, Jisir TV tweeted “six martyrs in the town of Al Tabani”, and Step news agency used similar language. However, SRG Syria claimed seven had been killed.

Deir Ezzor 24 originally stated four fatalities, but revised their number upwards to six after two civilians died of injuries sustained from the bombings.

LCCSY, Step, Salquin, and Deir Ezzor 24 all claimed the planes were Russian, but the Syrian Network for Human Rights stated that they were the regime’s.

According to multiple local sources, Russian or regime airstrikes took place in Al Kom near the ancient city of Palmyra – killing at least five non-combatants. .

The Syrian Network for Human Rights blamed the regime, putting the death toll at seven non-combatants, including two women and two children. Al Jisr also blamed the regime.

The names of some of the dead were published by news4u which also noted that an entire family had died.

Between five and seven civilians were killed and dozens of others were wounded in airstrikes against the town of Karm Al Dhaham, Aleppo. In addition to the human cost, the airstrikes reportedly caused extensive physical damage to buildings and homes.

The majority of local sources, including Nabd News and @ShahbaPress, attributed the airstrikes to Russian airplanes. However, Smart News only identified that both Russian and regime planes carried out airstrikes in the area but did not distinguish which struck Karm Al Dhaham.

An image posted by Enab Baladi showed a woman mourning for the loss of her family members and images posted by @Ahmd_alfaran show the physical destruction to buildings caused by the airstrikes.

On 6 January 2017, Russia, however, reported: “Since November 8, 2016, the aircraft carrier group of the Northern Fleet consisting of the heavy aircraft carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov, the heavy nuclear missile cruiser Pyotr Velikiy, the large ASW ship Severomorsk, as well as auxiliary vessels of the Black Sea Fleet, has been fulfilling counterterrorist missions on the territory of Syria”, adding that ”in the course of two months of their participation in the combat actions, naval aviation pilots have carried out 420 combat sorties, 117 of them were night ones.”

Additionally, Russia reported that its air forces have carried out strikes in Aleppo during November and December 2016.

Seven named civilians were killed and as many as dozens more were wounded in alleged Russian or Assad regime air and/or artillery strikes on Talbisah, according to sources on the ground.

Sources were conflicted as to which party caused the civilian harm. There was also some confused reporting. For example, LCCSY initially blamed Russia but then pointed to the regime. The Shaam News Network blamed both Russia and Assad – while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights didn’t identify the culprit.

One of those killed was a paramedic and ambulance driver, named as Abdul Majid Wakih. According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, he “died when Syrian regime artillery shells fired on Talbisa city while  he was aiding injured of previous shelling”. But RFS media office said that “he was shot dead in the city”.

According to Smart, the vicinity was under the control of ISIS at the time of the airstrike.

Those wounded were critical according to Smart News.
