On Nov. 30 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted five strikes consisting of five engagements against ISIS targets.

In the past week, France reports that air activity was focused on the Jezirah Desert where intelligence and support missions were conducted to locate terrorists who fled cities recently recaptured from ISIS. There were 36 sorties and 1 strike and 2 targets destroyed. Totals since 19/09/14: 7515 sorties / 1422 strikes / 2209 targets destroyed.

En zone irako-syrienne, Daech ne contrôle plus de grands centres urbains. Le prétendu califat n’existe plus et la phase de combat frontale contre Daech se termine. Affaibli, Daech tente maintenant de basculer dans une guerre clandestine.

La priorité des opérations actuelles est donc de supprimer les poches terroristes restantes, de sécuriser les territoires repris et de reconstruire les zones détruites par les combats, pour in fine permettre le retour à la vie normale des populations.

EFFORT DE LA COALITION

Pour l’instant, la résistance opposée par Daech reste faible malgré une menace permanente et l’utilisation d’engins explosifs improvisés.

Bien que très affaibli, Daech conserve une réelle capacité de nuisance. Basculant vers des modes d’action clandestins, l’organisation cherche à fragiliser les forces de sécurité irakiennes et le pouvoir en place et à déstabiliser les populations par la terreur.

Plusieurs attentats ont été commis ces derniers jours. Le plus important a eu lieu le 21 novembre dans un marché de Tuz Khurmatu (Sud de Kirkuk). Le bilan serait d’une trentaine de morts et de dizaines de blessés.

Dépollution et reconstruction

En parallèle des opérations de sécurisation, les forces de sécurité irakiennes soutenues par la coalition, s’attellent à la dépollution du champ de bataille. Les Task Force Monsabert et Narvik participent indirectement à ses opérations au travers de stages de lutte contre les engins explosifs improvisés au profit des forces de sécurité irakiennes. A Raqqah, les opérations progressent : des réfugiés ont d’ores et déjà été autorisés à retourner dans certaines zones périphériques.

Après avoir participé à la libération de Rawah, dernière ville tenue par Daech en Irak, la Task Force Wagram s’est réarticulée cette semaine pour être en mesure d’appuyer les forces de sécurité irakiennes dans leurs opérations de sécurisation et de ratissage de la vallée de l’Euphrate et du désert de Jézirah.

Elle n’a pas encore réalisé de tir dans le cadre de cette nouvelle mission d’appui mais se tient parée à effectuer des raids d’opportunité comme elle l’avait fait au cours de la bataille de Rawah.

Pour mémoire, depuis le début de la mission de la TFW, 1582 missions ont été réalisées.

CHAMMAL

Visite du Chef d’état-major des armées

Le week-end dernier, le général François Lecointre, chef d’état-major des armées, s’est rendu en Irak pour y mener une inspection de théâtre et y rencontrer les militaires français engagés en Irak dans la lutte contre Daech.

Il a d’abord visité la Task Force Narvik en charge d’une partie de la formation des militaires irakiens de l’Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service (ICTS). Unité d’élite des forces armées irakiennes, cette dernière a participé à la majorité des opérations de reconquête du territoire irakien.

7500 soldats irakiens ont été formés depuis avril 2015 par les TF Narvik et Monsabert.

Le CEMA est ensuite allé à la rencontre des artilleurs français de la TF Wagram. Actuellement établis à proximité de Rawah, ils appuient les opérations menées dans la vallée de l’Euphrate par les forces de sécurité irakiennes.

Depuis la bataille de Mossoul, les artilleurs de la TF Wagram ont appuyé toutes les grandes opérations des forces de sécurité irakiennes : libération de Tal Hafar dans le Nord irakien, d’Hawijah plus au Centre, et actuellement reconquête d’Al Qaim et de Rawah.

Après la libération de Rawah, l’enjeu actuel consiste à sécuriser les zones récemment conquises. Ces opérations passent par la neutralisation des poches terroristes restantes et par des actions de déminage et de dépollution pour permettre le retour des populations.
