A woman was killed in alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on the village of Al Fattira, Idlib governorate, on May 25th, 2019, according to local sources. An unknown number of civilians was injured.

The Syrian Civil Defense, Step News Agency and the Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that a woman was killed in an airstrike on Al Fattira village in Idlib suburbs on May 25th. According to Step News Agency, “a number of civilians” had been injured.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that “Mrs. Halima al Araibi, from Kafr Aweed village in Idlib governorate southern suburbs, was killed as Syrian regime forces dropped barrel bombs on al Fattira village in Idlib governorate southern suburbs.”

The Syrian Civil Defence posted a video, noting that “the body of a woman was recovered in the town of Al Fattira in Idlib countryside, from the rubble of her house yesterday night, after being targeted by an airstrike by warplanes.”

One source attributed the airstrike to Russia, another to the Syrian Regime, while a third source did not attribute blame. Step News Agency referred to “Syrian and Russian warplanes” in their report.

A 5-year-old boy was killed in alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on Kafar Nabil, Idlib governorate, on May 25th, 2019, according to local sources. Seven civilians, including three women and three children, were injured.

Rabea al Ta’ta’, age five, was reported killed by a number of sources following airstrikes on Kafar Nabil. @abdallh37777 posted a photo of the victim’s father holding his son’s body, noting that the child “was martyred at his home this morning in Kafar Nabil due to a raid by the despotic Assad regime warplanes on their safe house.”

@M25hLAkKS2ra6WD reported seven wounded, including three women and three children. The source added that “Civil defence teams rushed to the place and worked to help the injured to nearby medical points.” Shahba Press also claimed that “others” were injured in the airstrikes.

The destruction of civilian infrastructure was well documented by Euphrates Post. The source described the “great destruction in the homes of civilians” as a result of the airstrikes.

While nearly all sources attributed blame to the Syrian regime, Russia was named as the responsible belligerent by Euphrates Post.

Airwars assessment

Residential neighbourhoods of Kafr Nabil were subject to a number of airstrikes on May 24th, leading to the death of one child, named Ahmad Mahmoud Salah al-Satam, according to local media.

With a number of sources referring to “others wounded”, Smart News claimed that the rest of Ahmad’s family were hospitalised as a result of the strikes. Although the majority of sources attributed blame to the Syrian Regime, Euphrates Post and Hamah Now named Russia as responsible for the strikes.

In a video released by Smart News, activist Mohammed al-Ja`ar stated that “the planes targeted three mosques and several houses in the city”, with one of the mosques damaged named as Omar Bin al Khattab mosque by the Syrian Network for Human Rights.

As one alleged incident of many, Shaam News reported that Friday prayers in mosques were cancelled in the cities and towns of Idlib and Hama as result of continued airstrikes.

Smart News reported that “the forces of the regime and Russia have been carrying out intensive aerial bombardment of Idlib and Hama for weeks, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians, displacing hundreds of thousands of people and causing extensive damage to infrastructure, especially hospitals and schools.”

Two sources reported alleged Russian airstrikes on Harbeet village in Idlib on May 24th.

Syrian Network for Human Rights claimed that two media workers were injured in the airstrikes. The source stated that Mustafa al Khalaf and Mustafa Dahnoun, reporters of Syria TV and al Jisr TV respectively, were injured in “intensive bombing on the village by Syrian- Russian Alliance forces”.

Al-Khalaf told the Syrian Journalists Association that “while he was with his colleague Al-Abbas covering the shelling in an area near the town of Habit, a Su-24 warplane undertook an airstrike near them after a Russian reconnaissance aircraft flew. That resulted in Al-Abbas/Dahnoun being slightly injured by shrapnel in the face, neck and shoulder.”

According to Ariha Today, “a man and a woman were killed and four other civilians were injured in the town of # Kafarsjana in the southern countryside of Idlib as a result of raids by Russian warplanes”

But Idlib Media Centre pointed to the regime, reporting that “two civilians were killed and others wounded when regime military aircraft targeted the town of Kafarsajana, south of Idlib.”

Baladi said: “According to the correspondent of baladi  news in Idlib; the military aircraft of the regime forces launched a number of air strikes at approximately 9 am, targeting the town of Kafrsajna  rural Idlib South, killing two civilians and wounding others.”

A number of civilians including children and women were killed and injured in Russian forces and/or Syrian regime artillery strikes on Kafr Nubul on May 23rd, 2019, according to local sources.

In one news SMART reported that “two civilians were wounded by a rocket attack on the town of  Kafr Nubul south of Idlib from the positions of Russian forces near the city of Sakilipiya north of Hama (activists).”

At the same time, SMART reported another incident. “Syrian forces shelled missiles Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 on the city of Kafr Nubul south of the province of Idlib north of Syria, killing three civilians, including a woman and wounding seven others, including two women and two children.”

Three civilians were identified to have died in the attack; Abdul Hamid Al-Ismail, Muhammad Fayez Haj Hamido and Aisha Khalid Al-Junaid (a child). Some sources mentioned that a woman was also killed but there is no information yet.

It was reported that cluster bombs were used in the attack, and the blame was attributed to both Russia and the Syrian regime.

Two named civilians died and nine more – including a child and several members of the White Helmets – were wounded in alleged Russian or Assad regime airstrikes on Jisr al Shoughour, local media reported. According to the White Helmets this was a “double tap” raid – and members of its team were injured while inspecting the site of the first strike.

Jisr al shourghour Media centre reported “the death of the martyr Alaa Al-Sha’ar and the injury of nine others, including two members of the civil defense in four air raids”. It later named Walid Darwisho as a second victim.

Other sources put the number of wounded between six and nine. One named child was among those reportedly injured.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights added that regime warplanes fired at “Ruqayya Bint Malek High School…partially destroying its building and severely damaging its furniture”.
