Airwars assessment

Several civilians were reported injured and/or killed in alleged Russian forces or Syrian regime forces airstrikes on Hass in Idlib, Syria on March 27th, 2018 according to local sources. The sources reported that the area was targeted at least with two raids while others reported that four raids were launched.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said “raids targeting areas in the town of Hass, caused material damage with news about injuries due to the bombing.”

@omargen919 and @wateen_media mentioned that Hass hospital was put out of services after it was targeted with those raids.

Edlib Media Center, @HalabTodayTV, @omargen919, @wateen_media, @RFS_mediaoffice @GenevaUpdates, @mohanadalshekh ,and @blaas083 blamed Russia for the raids, while @IdlibPlus and @abo22yazed blamed the Syrian regime.

The incident occured in the afternoon.

According to SMART Agency, “Activists added that it is possible that Russian warplanes launched four raids on residential neighborhoods in the town of Al-Taman’ah, south of Idlib, without any civilian casualties.”

However, Sham Network mentioned that civilians were possibly injured or killed when “Russian and Syrian regime launched airstrikes on the cities and towns of Barah, Kafrnbell, Mhmbel, Alia, Nukir, Habit, Al-Taman’ah and Hass and Kafroma, causing deaths and injuries among civilians.”

While Shaam Network blamed both the Syrian regime and Russian forces, @HDHD2NEWS, @wateen_media and SMART agency blamed Russia only, and @IdlibPlus blamed the regime.

Shaam Network reported that “Russian and Syrian regime warplanes launched air strikes on the cities and towns of Barah, Kafrnbell, Mhmbel, Alia, Nukir, Habit, Altmanah and Hass and Kafroma” in Idlib, Syria on March 27th, 2018, “causing deaths and injuries among civilians”.

While @abduhaveez and @RFS_mediaoffice blamed the Syrian regime for the airstrike on Al Habit, @Wateen_Media accused Russia of the airstrikes in which “phosphorous and burning napalm” were used.

The specific number of those killed and/or injured in Al Habit is not known yet.

One woman was killed and up to three civilians were injured in alleged Russian and/or Syrian regime air and artillery strikes on the village of Al Naqir, Idlib governorate, on March 27th, 2018, according to local sources.

HalabTodayTV reported that “a woman was killed and several people were wounded, and more than 10 houses were destroyed by Russian raids targeting the village of Al Naqir in the southern countryside of Idlib.”

@omaralhaj15 tweeted that the name of the killed woman was Walida Hassan Al Hussein and that three other women were wounded, mentioning four airstrikes and eight artillery shells targeting the village. @HadiAlabdallah reported the use of phosphorus.

Local activists told Smart News Agency that Russian warplanes launched “four raids on the village, as the regime forces bombed them with a number of missiles from their positions at the ‘Bridge’ checkpoint, north of the city of Hama, killing a woman and wounding two civilians, in addition to destroying more than six houses.”

The Syrian Network for Human Rights, however, reported that Russian airstrikes targeted the tents of Internally Displaced People west of Al Naqir village, adding that several civilians had been wounded and that two tents were burnt.

A 12-year-old girl reportedly died due to a heart attack as she escaped her school in the village of Al Qadriya when the area was targeted by alleged Russian or Syrian regime warplanes.

@mohanadalshekh reported that Lujain Rashid (12) from Al Qadriya village in Jisr Al-Shughour countryside died “as a result of the stopping of the heart muscle as she escaped from school due to the attack of a warplane on the villages of Jisr Al Shughour.”

Smart News Agency reported that activists from the village of Al Qadriya stated that the “military aircraft, likely to be Russian, launched a raid on residential neighbourhoods in the city of Jisr Al Shughour”, and that fear made her heart stop as she fled the school. Human Voice reported the warplanes were Syrian regime aircraft.

@Wateen_media reported that “Russian occupation aviation targets the vicinity of the town of Al Taman’a with several airstrikes with vacuum missiles.”

@RFS_mediaoffice, however, reported Syrian regime artillery strikes: “Syrian regime forces stationed in Tal Marq village targeted Al Taman’a town, southern Idlib countryside, with artillery shells.”

According to @Step_Agency, warplanes targeted the bridges of Al Shughour and Al Taman’a, but no civilian casualties were reported.

Shaam News Network, however, reported the following: “Russian aircraft launched fierce air raids on the cities and towns of Ariha, Al Taman’a, Harsh Abidin, Al Naqir, Harsh Al Habit in the southern countryside, and Jisir Al Shugur, Al Safyat and Zarzour in the western countryside, which led to the fall of a number of wounded civilians.”

As it is unclear in which specific incidents civilians were harmed according to the Shaam report, and other sources do not mention civilian casualties for this incident, Airwars has graded the civilian harm status for this incident as “weak”.
